my benQ cd burner freezes during beginning of burn. i get no error messages. i have tried various burning software. i have used it for 1 1/2 years with no problem. i have uninstalled burning software. cd-r drive and drivers to no avail.
i had originally thought it could be burner. i replaced with new burner which worked for 3 burns and started the same thing.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

i'm getting the same problem with my plexcombo drive. i also had it with a previous drive in this computer. it normally gets 8-23% into a burn and freezes.
it seems to work more often at slower speeds (i.e 4x, the drive is a 20/10/40-12)
i have used winXP/nero/clonecd/alcohol120 all are the same

A real good place to start is to make sure your ASPI is in good order and up to date. Very good guide here:

tried that too but didn't work.
progress bar indicates about 6% burn before freezing. i don't believe it is burning anything to disk though. indicater light on drive goes off and on/disk spins fast then slows. drive won't stop unless i reset machine.? any other ideas.
thanks for your help.

thanks for the DMA advice - i went to the link and when checking if DMA was enabled (in device manager) noticed that i had no primary or secondary IDE channel!!! only a standard dual channel. i updated the drivers and now everything is fine.
thanks again for the help

Good deal, ljay :)

eric04, you don't have Easy CD/DVD Creator on your system do you? It doesn't play well with other burning apps and likes to cause trouble. You might try uninstalling any packet writing apps like InCD or DLA for kicks and see if that helps.

Try burning the disk at a slower speed, maybe that would help!
