If you get I/O writing errors with Decrypter (but NOT device related), download DirectX 9 from Microsoft. It fixed the writing errors!

Any brainiacs care to explain that miracle?

Hiya,

I shall have a go at doing so without going into the real heavy s&!t...

When you download & install DirectX9, the system writes a stack load of new files into a temp directory, then insists you re-start...

The re-start is because LOADS of those new files are replacements for low-level (read critical) system level files that are normally protected, in other words you can't just overwrite them willy-nilly, as Windows would have a hissy fit!!!

So, Windows re-starts, and as part of that bootup the new files are installed and registered.

Suddenly your I/O errors in Decrypter are solved!

That tends to point towards one of the myriad low-level interdependancies within Windows being fixed by the replacement of files (whether the "broken bit" was file based or registration based we cannot know).

God moves in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform!

Seeing as Bill Gates thinks he is God, it is not surprising that his product acts in mysterious ways...

Have Fun....

Life is just more of the same:

Quite an interesting diagnosis there, doc. I read this yesterday and figured it was a coincidence.

Heck no, it was no coincidence. I tried everyday for a week to solve the Decrypter I/O writing error, doing everything under the sun from different versions of Decrypter to different ASPIs to reinstalling drives. Same error message. But right after installing DirectX 9, decrypter has never failed me!
