After doing multiple google searches, my answers always came back to afterdawn, so I decided I'd finally become a member. First off, thank you to everyone that has provided great tutorials. Your assistance has been very appreciative. I haven't flashed my 360 yet because I just got the thing back up and going. It gave me the RROD a year ago, but at the time Microsoft said no. So, I bought another one. Then, Microsoft gives the 3 year warranty, but guess what, I was yet too late to discover that. So, thanks to your awesome assistance, my original 360 is up and running again. So, now onto the questions:
1. I have a samsung drive and I read that I can flash that to the 0800 firmware so that I can backup my games using that drive connected to my pc. My question is, can I buy a replacement drive, and use it only for backing up my games, while leaving the original still inside the 360?
2. I have the HAWX game and my son wants to play against me, but of course in order to do that, I would have to purchase another $60 copy, which I believe is absolutely stupid, just to play as a two player game. So, that is the game I want to backup, but my next question is, can I have two 360's going to my router to talk to each other with out using XBL or must I also purchase another Live membership?
I appreciate any input you can provide on those two questions. I research as much as I can until I get stumped on a question that I get answers for, but not the same circumstances I'm looking for. I'm relatively new to the whole gamer scene, I purchased the 360 for my son, and since playing the Force Unleashed, well, found a new hobby to take up. Again, thanks for all the help you've given before, and any that you can provide now!

Yes, you can either purchase a Samsung drive or a BenQ drive and flash the 0800 firmware to it to make back-up copies of your game.

Yes, most routers have a 4 port switch built into them. Plug ethernet cables into both XBOX 360s and then in the game, select multiplayer. One of you will need to choose the "system link" option and setup a match.
Once you are ready to flash your systems, take a look at the Jungle Flasher tutorial linked in my signature. It is the most up-to-date tutorial and will guide you to a successful flash.
Good luck!
