Hi all

I copied my first dvd yesterday dremcather using nero version 6 recode 2 and anydvd running in the background, when i went to watch the film it was perfect all the way through untill the last 10 mins when the picture kept going blocky and freezing, any ideas what could cause this?

I am using a toshiba sd r6112 drive on a laptop with 2400+ processor 512k ram 40g harddirve and the blank dvd i was using was a yello datawrite classic.

any help would be appreciated.

When a DVD has problems at the end it's usually a media problem. The best solution is to use good media like Ritek G04. If you have a bunch of cheap discs you need to use in the mean time you could try burning at a slower speed.

I was told DVDs are more brittle on outstide edge of the disc so you should use DVD Shrink to reduce the size of the disc to 4.25 but then again use the discs mentioned above I use the mirror ones.

I've never heard of problems with the edges of a disc being brittle, but if you have cheaper media it is generally a good idea not to burn all the way to the end. My understaning of the problem is that they apply the dye is by spinning it and dropping the dye, which is then spread by centrifigul force to the edge and lower quality dye gives you big problems when a little less than expected ends up at the outside edge, while higher quality dye rarely does. Don't take this as fact since I'm not an expert on the manufacturing process for blanks.

Edit: My earlier reply was based on my own experiences with decent, but not great quality media. When I had some that had problems at 2x with my old Pioneer 104 I had luck slowing down the burn and still going to the edge, but YMMV.
