Ok, basically, I've read everything here (that I can find) and it hasn't helped.

Here's the extractor I'm using:
http://www.diygadget.com/store/game-cons...on/prod_51.html

I have PortIO32 installed already.
I also have the drivers for the USB-Serial adapter installed

I'm attempting to use Jungle Flash.

My USB-Serial is installed as COMM9. I get to Jungle Flash, and do everything as instructed, and all I'm greeted with is an error "Warning, serial data is bad."
I do not have a power adapter for my drive, I simply (when closing the drive half way) either hit the eject button and pull the power out, or open it, unplug, half close, then plug it in again, then continue trying to extract.

I've had no luck whatsoever, and I've been workin on this for hours!!!

Any and all help appreciated!!

Regards

Budro

I might be wrong, but I thought you logically want the drive to think that it is halfway closed. So you want it open, but don't power it off then. Hit eject again (where the drive will start to close) then before it can be closed, power it off. So the drive will think it is closed, but is only halfway.

This might help also..

When you disconnect power from the drive are you disconnecting from the back of the LiteOn Drive? And you said that it's connected to COM9? When in JF, does it show COM9 in the drop down list? If not, you can just type it in manually! I just need a little more info on the situation!

I love the quick replies!! Thanks!

Yes, I do shut it off when it's half way shut, as you've instructed. Still no go :(

In JF, yes COM9 shows in the drop down box. It lists my USB - Serial adapter and everything. My SATA lists the lite-on drive details and everything.

But at this point, when I plug the probe into place, then click get key, it says "Warning, serial data bad."

I think you might have to keep experimenting with how far your drive actually needs to be shut.

First time I flashed a liteon, I got it right away.

Second time, I had to enter that "half closed mode" like two or three times before the drive would actually dump a good key. Sometimes the drive is just picky, so try messing around with it again.

If that still doesn't help, keep posting...

Make sure that the probe is touching the correct hole. Also just check in your Device Manager to make sure that it is even COM9. You could try experimenting with that too, Just try different COM ports. Also, make sure that the LiteOn drive is showing up when you are selecting the ports in the drop down menu.

Yup, it's com9. Yeah, I'm touching the correct hole. And the lite-on shows up everytime.
I have no idea what's wrong :(

Also, I just finished testing like 15 different tray 'half closed' positions, and not a single one of them is working :(

is there another computer that you can also use, to test and ensure that your key reader is good?

Well, I have this Mac that I'm typing this on, the PC that I'm using for it now, and another PC downstairs. I don't even know if this Mac (running parallels) can do it, and it's probably too complicated.

I'm running XP downstairs,vs Vista on this PC. Should I go downstairs to test it?

I've honestly never flashed a drive in Vista. I've only used XP. I know there have been some issues with Vista, but nothing that seems too crazy. I would probably go ahead and try it out atleast on your XP comp. If it doesn't work on there, then you would either be somehow setting it up wrong, or what might be more likely is that the key reader might not be functioning correctly.

I used the xtractor 360 and Spear, and it's always worked, but I do know plenty of people who have also built their own key reader and it worked as well.

Yeah I would go try it on the XP Machine. Though you shouldn't have trouble in Vista, but maybe since it's running in parallels you're getting the error.

I use the Xtractor360 Pro with Spear as well, and it works for me every time. I've made the tool too, and got it to work once...

To be clear, I'm not running Vista in parallels. That's just on my normal PC.

But anyways, I tried it on the XP machine, and it didn't work. Hopefully not, but this could be what I get for trying to save a buck and not buying a spear! lol

Any more ideas?

Do any of your computers just have a serial port? You may want to try that instead of using the USB.

Yeah, my PC downstairs has just a serial port.
How could I use that more effectively though? I've seen someone do it in a DOS only mode, but I don't know how :(

Well instead of using the USB, just try the Serial in JF. I mean what do you have to lose?

I haven't done it through DOS, so I'm not the guy to talk to about that!

yea i think i would just spend the money to get the ck3 with the spear for it. i have the maximus version of it, and works great, flashed all my lite-ons with no problems at all with it.

heres where i got mine from. it was the cheapest at the time. not sure now if it is.

http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/360x...ment-fuses.html

and the spear for it

http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/360xtractor-spear-addon.html

however, if you select the spear from the first link, it saves you 5 bucks. it works perfectly via mini usb for me, never had a problem with it.
