A few years ago I successfully completed a DVD Slieshow for playing on my conventional 21" TV. I am now re-doing the project for showing on my 40" LCD TV which has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Before starting I changed the resolution of all my images so that they were 1080 pixels high in the expectation that the images which appeared on the new TV wold be the right height and, just as important, high resolution. I burned the project (uncompleted) to a DVD to see what they would look like on the TV and found to my disappointment that, rather than being sharp, they were rather low resolution.

I have assumed that I should set the height to 1080. Is this correct? Is there something I should be doing to ensure I get reasonable resolution?

Thanks davexnet,

This is a potentially helpful site which I have bookmarked for future reference.

From what I have learnt since my original post there is no solution to my problem other than to buy a BlueRay player. Apparently there is nothing I can do to improve the quality of my slideshows on my 41" HD TV as my DVD player can only show 640x480 which my TV blows up to fit the TV (resulting in a fuzzy image))

You have a 1080p TV. OK.
Does your DVD player output a standard SD signal,
or do you have one of those "upconverting" players that
output 1080 signal ?

How is the DVD player connected to the TV ? Component, HDMI, s-video,
etc,etc.

How do regular DVD's look on your 1080p TV ? Don't forget,
they're only 720*576 (PAL) or 720*480 (NTSC). Presumably your TV
is upconverting those also.

davexnet,

My DVD player is a standard SD model (a few years old) which connects to the TV as a component. regular DVDs look OK but are nowhere near the resolution of high definition TV broadcasts, though the have much better resolution than my slideshows.
