I recently went and bought the entire dragon ball z dvd's.
I have backed up all of them except season 9, for some reason shrink gives me....

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
failed to read file from "E:/"
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Then I tried DVDFab 6, that was just released, and it loaded the disc and completed the process BUT it only copied the first and last 4 VOBs and said it was completed?

THEN I tried ripit4me (yeah I was desperate lol) and that is copying the files. but i have no idea if its going to work til it finishes....in 83hrs.

here is the log file from ripit4me, maybe it can give you more info on the protection system on this particular set of discs. the rest I had no prob with at all using shrink and fab...I found this very strange. any help you can give me would be great :)

sounds like dvdfab 6 is doing it's job correctly. The rest of the vobs may be fake and a form of copy protection and therefore unnecessary

I thought that also, then when I ran it through Nero it only had the menus, previews and some unreferenced material... none of the episodes were copied.
I was thinking maybe something on the discs are reading the vob/ main movie as blank vobs.
thanks for the replies :) I really appreciate it!!

the first disc just finished ripping with ripit4me, it took 12hrs to rip it running at 8.0x read speed. after cleaning the vob's shrink opened and took it.
it looks like it added "dummy sectors" to just about every file on the disc.
And it burned perfectly.
maybe this is a new form of encryption?
Im still pretty new to backing up my dvd's but I just poke around alot...sometimes it works for me sometimes it doesn't lol

thanks again for the replies :)
hope this helps any DBZ fans who get the series and wanna back it up :)

when u run anydvd and ripit in tandem, you need to set dvd decrypter to the following

1) use elbycdio interface instead of spti
2) untick check for structure protection

then u r all set

then when i bought season 9 it would only rip the menus and extras but not the episodes. ended up using ripit4me to get all of the first disc....and it took 12hrs to rip on 8x read speed lol since i have been using anydvd i havent had any probs. :)

I don't know why this works, but it does.

I previously tried Dvd fab, Any Dvd, Clone Dvd 2, Dvd Decrypter, and Rip it 4 Me to backup the Dragonball Z series 9 set. Unfortunately, nothing worked.

Not even the above stated combination method between Any Dvd, Dvd Decrypter, and Rip it 4 Me worked.

Then I tried Any Dvd 6.5.5.9 with Dvd Shrink and suddenly the Dragonball Z Series 9 disk began to copy without insanely long durations.

I checked the copies and they worked perfectly; thus hopefully this method will work well for everyone else - at least until Dvd fab and Any Dvd figure things out.

I was able to get Season 1-6 with AnyDVD and CloneDVD no problem, but I was having some problem with Season 7. Then I just updated AnyDVD and CloneDVD since I had versions that were 3 years old. After that I had no problems with Season 7 or 8. Now I'm on Season 9 and I can't seem to get anything to work. AnyDVD and CloneDVD don't seem to work. I've tried combination of other programs mention in this topic but I'm afraid I've just made a mess of things with all this different programs installed.

Can anyone recommend the best combination of programs and settings and maybe the steps they took to successfully back up Season 9. I know it has been posted already but I'm getting lost within the posts and a fresh post with clear instructions would be beneficial to me and probably some others. Thanks.
