Hi Guys,
I have been away for a while and now ive came back for a read I see some changes..
I started on wii 3.4u and flashed with homebrew etc and now am on wii v4 and all has been well.
Now i see there is a wad manager 1.4 and a new USB loader 1.5 and Id like to upgrade what I have but as I already have the homebrew channel and back up launcher I guess I dont have to go through all the steps again and just wanted to ask whas the best way for me to do this without messing everything up.

If you want to use Wad Manager 1.4 just download it and replace the 1.3 boot.dol icon.png and meta.xml files that are already in your Wadmanager folder.
If you want to use the USB loader just make sure that your cIOS is updated at least to revision 9.

So you used Wadmanager from the homebrew channel to install a channel wad of 1.3 correct? So do the same with 1.4

Yes thats what I did, I was running the wad manager from an sd card through the Homebrew channel , then I somehow installed it as a channel, But I can not recal How I installed it as a chennel...
Can you refresh me or point me to a link Ive been searching but there are so many crossed threqads with similar topics and different methods and every thread mentions a different IOS or cIOS Im getting muddled.
My reason for wishing to update is I have a back up called red Steel that the kids want and it just wont run it just freezez on boot up from back up launcher or USB loader so figured I need an update.
Thanks again.

You would get a wad of wadmanager 1.4. Put that wad in the wad folder (the wad folder should be in the root of your SD card) Start Wadmanager, select loading from SD and install the wad.
That being said, if I remember correctly, RedSteel doesn't work with any launcher.

Thanks I will give it a try, Im just worried about removing wads and not getting them back in place and messing up.. so thought I should ask b4 I blunder on and brick the wii removing wads and installing new ones..
If Red Steel is not a game that will run perhaps there is no need for me to upgrade?
Its not like the kids have a shortage of games but you know how it is the one that wont play is the one they want.. :-)
Thanks again

Yeah, you probably shouldn't fix what isn't broken :)
The only purpose of having a wad channel of something is for convenience.
You can easily run Wad Manager 1.4 from the Homebrew Channel.
I don't think you'll brick your Wii but just to be safe.
In 1.4 you can select which IOS is used to install your wads. It won't help RedSteel to run.
And I hear you about wanting the one that doesn't work :)
And in case your curious, the way that bricks happen are usually these:
Installing an update from an an out of region disc
Installing a "bad wad" (improperly sized)so it causes the system menu to hang (banner brick)
Uninstalling a system menu IOS such as 30, 50, or 60
And a few others
That last one is probably the worst. Almost no way back from that.

Thanks M8,
The way IOS and cIOS terms are bantered about round this forum and others is quite confusing there seem to be so many and as yet I have never figured out how many of them there are and which ones are which, but I have read threads where some have removed IOS or cIOS files and then their wii's would not work so I feel when I can follow instruction but dont fully understand the instruction but it works then I need to ask before further alterations.
Thanks again
L :-)

If you are curious you can take a look at this:
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/IOS_History
Official Nintendo IOSes go from 3 to 61.
After that is pretty much all bootleg.
cIOS stands for custom IOS
When someone says cIOS they are almost always referring to cIOS36 which is a modifcation of the official Nintendo IOS36. The reason you hear IOS249 is because this is where cIOS36 get installed to. So if someone says cIOS, what they are referring to is essentially the same as IOS249.
There aren't a bunch of cIOSes. Really only two. cIOS37 which was what was used before the switch to cIOS36.
cIOS36 and 37 have revisions the latest of which is currently revision 10.

You can get Red Steal to work with WiiGator if you patch the game ISO to use IOS 249.
To do this download IOSPatcher from HERE and extract the file.
Drag the ISO of red steal into the IOSPatcher.exe file.
Type 249 when it ask what IOS to patch the game to.
After it patches the game burn the ISO to disc and WiiGator should launch it.
There are a few games that need to be patched to use 249. HERE is a compatibility list of games that work and do not work or need IOS patched for WiiGator.
Red Steal will not work with USB Loader at this time.
