YES. You need a USB loader to do it. You also need certain IOSs to do it. There is plenty of info here on how to get a loader to work. There are a few different loaders. Some are painfully slow at copying and others are much faster. Usualy there is an option in the loader that says "Install game" or something along those lines. That is what you click to copy the disc to HD.

You need to first go to setting and unlock. Once you unlock it, you can do anything you want. Add games, delete games, download covers,etc.....

As edzzz66 said you need to unlock the USB Loader GX to get the add button to appear.

Go to settings and click on unlock.

Then type in ab121b for the password to unlock the loader.

After you unlock it you can then go to settings then password and change the password to whatever you want or do not enter anything to not set a password.

What are the differences in rev10 vs. rev 9
I read 9 seems more stable but any input would be appreciated.

rev10 was release for updated USB loader and for games images support. Few games freezed in rev10 but works in rev9.

USB loader GX, works on rev9 and also support game images and disk images.

Yeah, the cIOS (that's cIOS36) is pretty much the major step with the backup loader.

I am curious about why you have "CIOS60 wad" in your list of steps.
Are you on 3.2 or 4.0?
Anyway if you installed it, do not uninstall it.

Also even though you already got you answer about changes between 9 and 10, here is the changelog that is included with it:

[ CIOS36 rev 10 ]:

- Some modifications in DIP plugin.
- SDHC module added (thanks to WiiGator for the help).

[ CIOS36 rev 09 ]:

- EHCI module made by kwiirk added.
- Support for USB mode in DIP plugin.
- Removed NAND permissions check.

[ CIOS36 rev 08 ]:

- Custom IOCTL_DI_OFFSET command (for multigame support).
- Support for custom DIP commands.
- D0 read command now reads at 6x when using original discs or modchip.
- Error 001/002 transparent patching system.
- Fixes and improvements.

[ CIOS36 rev 07 ]:

- DIP plugin updated (lots of improvements).

[ CIOS36 rev 06 ]:

- Custom DIP module removed.
- DIP module patched (DIP plugin) to support backups.

[ CIOS36 rev 05 ]:

- ES_CloseContent() permission check removed.
- Custom DIP module v0.2 added.

[ CIOS36 rev 04 ]:

- Now the base IOS is IOS36.
- ES_OpenTitleContent() titleid check removed.
- ES_ReadContent() permission check removed.

[ CIOS37 rev 03 ]:

- ES_AddTicketStart() title version check removed.
- ES_DeleteTicket() and ES_DeleteTitle() now can delete system titles.
- ES_SetUID() check removed.

[ CIOS37 rev 02 ]:

- Removed copyright code.
- Changed the way the IOS is patched.

[ CIOS37 rev 01 ]:

- DVD_LowUnencryptedRead() limit removed.
- ES hash check disabled (Trucha bug).

Unlocked loader and tried to go back and got a big list of errors and a buzzing sound with a stack and code dump.
Wii froze. I powered down all seems normal...
What happened there?
How do I get this thing to operate properly?

I have a PAL wii with a D2ckey modchip installed. I updated to 4.0 and installed bannerbomb in order to get the homebrew channel by visiting here: (http://yafaze.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=113).
Then i visited (http://www.mikeandheth.com/games/97-connect-wii-usb-hard-drive.html) and (http://www.coderetard.com/2009/04/22/wii-hard-drive-hack-load-wii-games-off-a-hard-drive/).
These are the only 3 sites required in order to:
1/ Get the homebrew channel on your wii if your stuck on version 4.0
2/ Install USB loader successfully on your wii and be able to rip games to an external harddrive from your wii and play them 100%.

Just a note: I installed Ultimate USB loader, and when it would rip an original wii game from the wii system to my external harddrive it would stop or i would get a black screen. To fix this, go to the wii settings and delete all wired and wireless connection settings- as this interrupts the USB loader- then everything will work without a hitch.

Lots of thanks should go to the 3 sites stated above, as they helped me heaps..

You may also want to try formatting with your computer using WBFS Manager. I seem to remember hearing that some people had to use their computer to format 1 TB drives. Still others had to partition their drive because stuff wasn't working above 512 GB or so.

So you are certain that you have cIOS either rev 9 or 10?

Which revision of USB Loader GX do you have?
USB Loader GX has been constantly worked on and with over 400 revisions some have bugs.

If you have a more recent revision you can tell which one you have by going to settings and clicking the star. If you have one of the later revisions it should tell you which one you have in the top right.

How are you loading the loader? Is it from the homebrew channel? a wad on the system menu, a forwarder on the system menu?

When you partioned, did you make the WBFS partition less than 500 GB (just to be on the safe side?)

Have you tried using the original Waninkoko loader 1.5? Not USB Loader GX?
Original SD/USB Loader 1.5 is here: http://www.teknoconsolas.es/blogs/waninkoko

I had that happen to me after I first installed it. I think it was because I didn't reset the Wii after installing USB Loader GX.

I reset the Wii and now all is working fine with my 16gb usb drive.
