Unsure if anyone can help with this.

System: PS2 Slim
Mod Chip: Duo 3 Ultra
Issue: Won't read disks

I installed a Duo 3 Ultra in my PS2 slim. The system recognizes the chip as if you hold down the "START" button on joypad 1, disabled pops up on the screen. The trouble is it won't read disks. Keeps giving a "bad data on disk" error. Doesn't matter if the disk is a backup or not. So figuring that I may have fried the reader, I disconnected the power from the mod chip fired it up, and it reads disks again. I looked into the diode fix, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. I've tried 2 different readers, and get the same result in both. The first Duo 3 I put in was bad, but I can't believe I have 2 bad chips. Any help or a direction where to look would be helpful.

Some more information....

As it turns out the drive won't spin up with the chip installed. Well it sort of does. It starts, stops, starts, stops, does this for about 5 seconds and then just stops. Disconnect the power from the chip and the PS2 runs fine.
