Dear Anyone.

So I wanted to make a video a little less dark. The original AVI was about 1.5gig. I downloaded Virtual Dub, which I'd never used before, and if this is the result will prob. never use again, and added about 20% to the brightness and contrast of the vid with its inbuilt filters.

The result? A SIXTY FOUR GIGABYTE FILE!!! Like.... WTF!?! Why the heck would adjusting a bit of brightness and contrast add SIXTY THREE GIG to a file? And how would I compress that into something that goes on an ordinary, 4gig DVD?

If, as I suspect, that isn't possible, what did I do wrong? How do you alter the brightness of a vid. without gross-outing its size? Surely there must be some kind of software that lets you just turn up the brightness and contrast, like on a television, and save the adjusted result?

I imported the vid. into Virtual Dub, used the filters to get it looking right and saved the result. That's all.

Lot of questions, again, thanks for putting up with this video idiot! I'm trying to learn, honest, not my fault my I.Q. is exceeded by my age...

Yours hopefully

You didn't set the Video/Compression - either divx or xvid.
(configure them as necessary).

Without doing that Vdub writes uncompressed RGB which is massive.

Thanx, Davexnet (he says, feeling a little dumbass.) I did indeed commit that particular oversight.

In this field, I'm feeling more and more like the guy who reads the instruction booklet before using a toothbrush...

Yours respectfully
