Im looking to buy a Toshiba/Samsung 360 dvd drive from a person on Craigslist and install 0800 firmware on it and use it only for ripping games.
1. Is there a 0800 firmware for this drive?(not 1.6 since i cant rip with 1.6)
2. Can make sucessful rips with the 0800 firmware?
3. How could I go about powering this drive without having to open up my 360?

I assume there is an older 0800 firmware for the drive that can produce perfect rips. anyways, would this work for powering the drive without the 360.

i'm pretty sure ix1.6 is the only firmware capable and yes, a ck3 will power the drive without the need of the xbox itself. i have one myself. works great.

theres an old xtreme firmware called Xtrm0800.bin that can make 0800 rips. Said here by bhetrick

Yes, there is 0800 firmware for the Samsung and BenQ. Both work great with XBOX Backup Creator or Schtrom 4.0. New versions of ripping programs are being updated to cater for ix1.6
