Hi guys,

Apologies for creating a new thread about this, but I notice there's a similar thread on here discussing this issue, but it's over 60 days old so I can't reply to it unfortunately.

I'm trying to get God of War 2 working with HDLoader, but when I try to run it I get a black screen.

This happens when I run HD Advance, and also when I run a file with the name 'HDLv0.8_GOW.iso' which is an updated version of HDLoader, and according to the name, specifically designed for God of War 2!

For what it's worth the ISO I'm trying to run is around 7GB, so it's the dual layer one, but I was under the impression they usually run alright anyway.

I do actually have the original on DVD, so it's not a huge problem if I can't get it working on HDLoader, but it'd still be great to run it quietly, with nice load times and not have to worry about keep swapping discs (and saving my laser as it seems a bit dodgy!!)

Cheers :)

Huge thanks for the quick reply, I am using WinHIIP1.7.6 so should be okay with that, but I'll admit I don't know an awful lot about this 'Mode 3' thing.

Is that something I can set from the menus, or will I have to re-transfer the ISO across and do it in WinHIIP?

/Googles

Thanks again

you can just set it from the menu

just 'highlight' your game

Press 'select' on the ps2 controller

Choose 'mode 3' or 3rd option

Then press 'select' again to save configuration

That's great, cheers for the explanation.

One quick question - when you say press select after highlighting the game, I get a list of options, with the third being 'Kill HDL after launch' as opposed to anything with the actual word 'mode' on it, when I change that to yes, press select to save the settings and try running the game, it still crashes unfortunately :(

Was that the right setting to change?

Yes that was mode 3

Are you using HDAdvance, did it do the same using HDL 8 ISO you have.

Hmm, yup afraid so - I loaded HDLoader 0.8c (or something similar - has a grey background) hit select, changed 'Kill HDL after launch' to yes, hit select to save my setting, hit x to load the game and it crashed :(

I'm starting to think I've either done something quite drastically wrong, or my HDL isn't working right, because plenty of games that should work with this updated one (DMC3 SE, Buzz, SotC etc) still don't work :(

Well there is a scan/repair function in winhiip you can try.

Also what brand and size of hdd are you using. You have the correct setting, as to whether its a 28 bit or hdloader 48 bit.

Cheers, I actually already did the scan/repair thing on WinHIIP just before plugging it back into my PS2 this time, d'oh!

As for the hard drive, it's 120GB and the one that came with it from the HD Advance site, so a regular Maxtor I think...

Thanks again for your help, appreciate it :)
