I flashed my drive and tried to play a backup and all i got was a message saying to play this disk put in a xbox 360 console. I dont know what happened. So i reflashed the drive with the original firmware and i got the same message. Is there anything that i can do to fix this or do i need to just buy another dvd drive.
The wrong iXtreme wouldn't give him that error message.
Getting that error after flashing is usually a result of not having the drive key in the fw. But what's odd is that you say you flashed back to original and still get the same problem.
What flashing method did you use? Also, open your original in Toolbox and make sure your key is there.
i used the bad flash recovery method and when i used toolbox to see if my key was there it wasn't. I lost my original firmware because of moving and i had to format my computer. so the question is can i get another drive from lets say ebay and flash it, and be good to go, or do i just need to throw this xbox away, buy a new one and flash it.
well, if you dont have the orig key than your SOL.
there are ways to get the key but in your case, i see a new arcade xbox in your future.
on the bright side, you will have a new lite-on, on the bad side, you will need a way to extract the key.

the moral of the story is, when the guide said to back up your orig firmware thats put it on a cd or dvd for safe keeping before you format your drive.

You know what, I now stand corrected from my previous post. I just finished up an rrod for gameover9 and long story short, his benq has a dead laser and it's giving the same screens as you're getting. I know it's the laser because I took one out of a spare LO drive and it plays fine.
Try this, put a regular dvd movie in the drive. It should play the movie fine because the laser plays them on a different signal.
