"Supported Write Speeds: 2x"
Are you writing to a mini-DVD?
Try writing to a full sized DVD-R and that will most likely tell you where the problem is.

Issues that I see (that may or may not be related to your problem)
XP SP1 (upgrade to at least SP2 or 3)
Your DVD writer is old > 6 yrs.
Have you ever successfully written a DVD using imgburn on this PC?
When was the last time that you wrote ANYTHING successfully with this PC and DVD writer.
Everything looks normal in the log file but it appears that the writer can't even burn to the first track.
Your writer may be dead or so old it can't write to the Fuji DVDs

I hope that it's the problem.
Standard troubleshooting procedure:
1. If you were successful in the past, what is different now?
Substantial fixes between SP1 and SP2. I'm betting that's it.

i'm guessing that i just need a better driver. sp2 didn't help imgburn. but i was able to burn the iso to a dvd & a cd with IsoBurner but homebrew disc loader in hbc said something along the lines of 'no correct file type' and backup launcher said 'No DVD(n)' or something. suspect anything wrong with the iso file?

1. IMHO, there is no reason that imgburn shouldn't work. I use it for GC .isos all the time. I would work to get that part fixed (anyway). That drive is good, but old. My Pioneer just crapped out but I burned over 1000 discs in the year that I owned it.
2. I am chipped so I can't speak to any difficulties you may be encountering due to softmod.

Okay, so im also having the same problem. Imgburn works fine until it says writing sectors. It gets to about 23 percent, no matter what iso im trying to burn (wii iso's) and then i watch the write speed jump ridiculously between 2,000 k/b per second and 0 kb per sec. This started 2 days ago with elebits, then i successfully burned a excite truck and now im getting errors again, wtf? So if someone can help, I'd really be thankful. here's my log...

Hijacking is posting to an existing thread with something that isn't an answer or something not DIRECTLY related to the original post.
In this case, the TC (topic creator's) post was about Gamecube games and provided a log with a specific signature.
Your post was about Wii games and posted a different (and probably unrelated) error signature.
IMHO you should have started (your own) new topic.
