Hoping somebody can help me. I am a newbie and thought i would buy a modded xbox for my son - not got a lot of money so in long run would benefit!
User id SWAN777 had a modded xbox for sale with 19 games - total 77pounds incl delivery see link below (dated 22 may 2009)

Does anyone know of Swan777? Is there anything i can do to get money - have contacted paypal but they dont want to know.
I do not wish to see anyone conned by swan777. My son is devastated only 11 years of age, told him i would get him one, now cannot afford to buy another.
Any help would be appreciated
what do you mean paypal doesn't want to know? that would be the only way of getting your money back is filing an item not received or something like that on there.
on a side note, NEVER buy from someone that is a newbie on a site. its just asking to get ripped off. always buy from a senior member of higher, that ensures that they have been here a long while and are 'known' around the forums.

Hi, yes your right and i should have known, but seeing the price offered for the console and the budget i had i thought it was too good to miss. As far as paypal goes, they have said that because it was not bought on ebay then my purchase is not protected.
i suppose it is a lesson learnt, an expensive one at that.I hope somebody reading this does not make the mistake i did. Thanks for your reply
Well what is your paypal account tied to? Credit card or bank? Either way you should contact them and see what they can/will do for you. But you might want to leave out the part that it's modded and included burnt games.

Damn that sucks. I have a 6 yr old and a 2 yr old, if I got scammed out of money which I know is hard to come by I'd be p'o'd too.
TOo bad you're in the UK as I have a spare NTSC console I'd probably end up giving you. If I run across a PAL one that works, I'll see what I can do for your son.
Reading the thread it seems you have been scammed. Sorry about that dude...
Like wabashman said try contacting your bank or credit card company and explain to them the situation. Or if you want to take matters to your own hands there's another way to resolve this. His address and name is tied to his PayPal account. You can see where he lives and drive over there (if it's not too far) and talk to him. This is dangerous though as he may be a lunatic...so use extreme caution.

I initially spoke to a paypal representive on their hotline who said that they could do nothing for me, but reading your advice i have filed an electronic dispute with the seller and left a message for him to either send me the goods or refund the money. I paid by debit card so if this paypal resolution fails to provide me with a refund then i will contact my bank. thank you PS2Menace, having children of your own puts issues like this in perspective and truly hurts, i am still bruised but has given me the incentive to do more overtime at work without feeling the pain knowing that i am working to get my son his first console.
I honestly thought dealing with users registered with Afterdawn would be dedicated honest gamers, theres always one that would spoil that, and yes if i could i would ban SWAN777 from the forums.
I am too much of a gentleman to insult him, let him live with the guilt, i just hope it doesn't happen to him or anyone for that matter
