I have a problem. I was trying to update my hitachi drive to the 1.51 firmware. I thought I had done it right. When I tried to play a game it wouldn't play and it said to contact xbox support. I did some reading and found out that before adding the 1.51 firmware I had to restore it to its original firmware, which I didn't. The problem I have is that when I try to turn on my computer with the xbox in mode b it wont get passed the loading screen of windows. Did my drive screw up? It still opens and closes and I can still get it in mode b by turning it off with the drive open and turning it on and holding the drive.

I am using the sata connection on my motherboard so I am guessing its the onboard via chipset. It used to load perfectly before on mode b until I tried to update the firmware.

Try using Jungle Flasher to fix the drive. If your drive still ejects you should be able to get it updated. Try leaving the drive off, and then booting up Windows completely. Once in JF, you can eject the drive, and then send Mode B. The drive should respond and JF will put the drive into Mode B. At that point you can restore original firmware and flash ix1.51.

The problem is that jungleflasher wont detect the drive. It detects all of the other drives except the xbox drive.

Today I flashed my friends samsung drive without any problems. In about 10 minutes it was flashed. Jungle flasher read the drive without any problems. I just hooked it up via the sata port in my motherboard. So this tells me that the sata connection is compatible with the jungle flasher. I still don't get why its not detecting my hitachi. Its pissing me off.

hitachi drives suck, I'd spoof to a benq if I were you. The hitachi drives have been nothing but problems for me. You usually have to do a pot cal just for backups to work in the last two I did.

Is it possible to use a different drive? Can I get a benq or samsung from ebay and put it in my xbox that has an hitachi?

I am really considering just buying a new drive. I was impressed how easy it was to flash the samsung. no mode b. just put it in vendor mode read and write.

Get a benQ. As long as you have the orginial keys you can spoof to any drive. BenQ's are the best.

You must use the key that is in your original Hitachi firmware.

Just load the original Hitachi firmware in Source of JF.
Load ix1.6 for BenQ or Samsung (which ever drive type you choose).
Click "spoof source to target".
Get drive in vendor mode and write.

If they are the keys that came with that drive, otherwise your're screwed if you can't pull them.

I don't understand. I flashed my friends samsung and you read the firmware on the drive and save it using jungleflasehr. Can I use that?

No. You can use keys from another drive. Here's what you need to do. Hook up the Hcrapi drive and do a read to pull the keys. Then hook up the other drive you want to use. Load the hcrapi drive as source and target the sammy 1.6 ix firmware and hit spoof. Then flash it.

You have the original Hitachi firmware dump right?

Edit: In your second post, you said you have the original bin file.

Load that into source.
Load ix1.6 for BenQ/Samsung.
Click spoof source to target.
Write.

Yes that will work. Just load it as source as stated above, and load the benQ 1.6 firmware as target, hit spoof, then write, the outro.

Thanks for the help. I am just going to try to see if jungleflasher can read my drive using a usb-sata adapter. If that doesn't work, I am buying the drive.

Do I need to install some drivers if I am going to do it with a usb-sata adapter. I read somewhere that you need the usb drivers for jungle flasher, but I don't know where to get them.

You need a 6421 Via card. Why would you use a usb adapter? Are you using a laptop?

I want to see if it works with a usb adapter. I am using a pc. Since it is not reading the hitachi in the sata in the motherboard I want to see if it works with the adapter.

One like this: http://www.compusa.com/applications/Sear...9339&CatId=3770

Like it says on the jungle flasher tutorial. that you can use the usb-sata adapter and use USmode b

well if you don't have a 6421 card, then you won't see the drive. Do you have a 6421 via card? They are only $15.00 and will work on all drives.
