Sony has noted today that they will allow new owners of the PSP Go handheld to download digital copies of games they currently own on UMD, because the drive has been removed from the updated console.
John Koller, PSP hardware marketing director says Sony will create a "good will program" that he compared to "digital copies" that come with Blu-ray titles. The digital titles are free and ... [ read the full article ]

Does anyone know what format the new games will be on if any, such as a memory stick slot for games or something, or will all new games be download only?

Download only. The PSP Go has 16GB of internal flash memory and they've removed the UMD. Too bad they didn't keep a MSPD slot for expansion :(

striaght off the bat it Ridiculas. I like the idea of the 16 gig hard drive, but downloading the games for it that you already have. sorry but each games it a gig and a half 2 maybe depends. and they expect you to do this every time you want to play a game.
it they had a playstation store I'd get them to do it.
as for homebrew for the psp go. if they do hack it. its sounds looks
homebrew tastic its a beauty for homebrewing

Guys, please. Watch the E3 video. It does have expandaple space, don't remember which type cards it uses though. And also every new game will be available for download AND on UMD for the older models. And of course not, you don't have to download the game every time you wan't to play, you download once and install once.

What if just say I own 100 Games for my psp. and Ive and a Psp ever one I changed it ever time they bought out a new one. Im a huge gamer I wanna play all they games. its stupid you shouldnt have to go to that much bother to play games.
Point being
1/ they brought out blue ray to stop Piracy and too get everyone to buy the new great blue ray oh god it amazing blue ray. so people would stop buying dvd and move to blue ray.
2/I love the idea of this new gameing system onelive
3/ you just shouldnt have to go to that much bother to play a game

I don't think many people will have neo842 100 umd problem, with 16gb of memory you can easily have 6 or 7 games with room to spare.Unless you have the attention span of a goldfish, that should be plenty.Plus who carries more than a couple(if any)umds?Let alone a 100.

Great time to be a PSP noob! Buy a PSP-Go, buy all the games you want in UMD and download them, then resell the UMDs. Free games!

okay, now people need to stop complaining about transitioning from the PSP-1000 (which I have) and the PSP-2000 to the PSP Go!
Sure, Nintendo has traditionally allowed for a transfer from hand held to hand held. The Orginal GB could be played in the GB Color. GB Color would play in the GBA. GBA would play in the DS and DS Lite but NOT in the DSi.
Game Cube will play in the Wii but there isn't any other transition between Nintendo home consoles.
I have a 60 GB PS3 so I can play most of the PS1/2 games, but not all.
How long did that model stay on the market? Not very. Sony has posted a loss for the first time in 14 years or so. They need you to throw away your old PSx and get the new ones!

I just wish they'd allow me to download my umd based games (and movies) and play them on my PSP 3000 just for the ease of switching games, carrying around less junk and better battery life.
Although I don't want to splurge for a 16gb Pro Duo card and later for a 16 or 32gb new proprietary card for the PSP Go if/when I upgrade...

wut? How hard is it to stick a UDM into the PS3 and have it rip it into a DRM file or make a 50$ ripper that rips the games into a DRM file...... I swear....you're asking people to ignore this and download their own games to the system........

They're still selling UMDs for PSP 1000/2000/3000 users so people without broadband wireless access are not screwed yet. Once they phase out UMD games entirely, then there's going to be a problem. I don't like the direction of this industry. It kills the resale market. You buy used games? Too bad. You can't now. You gotta buy the digital download for full price. You want to sell your games? Too bad. You can't resell your digital download. The DRM will also inevitably lead to issues for some people in the future.

I would not say that the up side in 1-3 years UDN games will be cheap and the rare ones that are more than 30$+ used will be cheaper off PSN.
They could do this in a more consumer freidnly manner but it will right itself in time...I guess...

I don't like this new design at all they didn't improve it at all, but stripped it like they normally do with their consoles.Look its fairly simple just add the L2 and R2 buttons and the second analog stick. We all know storage is always an issue so if UMD doesn't work then why not use a small harddrive similar to what the iPod and Zune use. They are already up to 120Gig and this guy is talking about 16Gig which is garbage if you ask me.
Worst idea ever and for bluetooth are they forgetting its a portable GAME console. How the hell are you suppose to play these PS1 games if the buttons you need aren't available.Quadruple gueto smacks in the face to these nuckle heads.I aint buying this for the mere fact this issue has been spread all over the internet and these idiots haven't picked up on it yet.

Pretty much my complaints with it, the suits are so forward thinking(new games new things to sell) they forget what can be made off their PSX/PS2 lineup, the small drive size allows them to sell more hardware/memthingys and possibly reselling a few dozen games. .

Yep, sad to see this handheld getting stripped I really saw potential in it.I hope they lose big time on this idea and actually wake up for once.It would be a good idea for them to listen to the consumer for once.It would make them more money if they actually paid more attention to the major issues it has.

With this the PSP should last another 3-6 years like the 360.... everyone seems to be putting off updating...I dunno if its good or bad anymore gaming has become so shallow casual even the hardware is not being well thought out.....

I think Sony is trying to lose the image of "just a gaming console" for the PlayStation brand. They're making their consoles more like everything systems rather then just gaming consoles. What their trying to put out there is that you can use the PSP or PS3 for anything. Games, movies, music, a computer, a way to connect with others, whatever. They're making the brand more general, more for everyone. They'll reach out to more people and sell more consoles that way. Obviously real gamers don't care about this stuff, but what about the people that do?

I care because its dilutes the averages and makes games more casual....
