Is my soft modded Wii fine like this?

I purchased a Wii firmware 3.3E. I used bannerbomb and Hackmii installer to install Homebrew channel, DVDx and Bootmii as IOS since my Wii cannot install it on Boot2. (Since then I uninstalled Bootmii as IOS since I read that it was of no real use in such installation mode)

Since then I installed a Backup Launcher channel Gamma 0.3 and cIOS38 v13b - the latter since I was having the 002 error with some backup DVDs.

Now after reading the Updated Guide to Softmod your Wii on this forum I have the following questions / doubts:

1. Should I have to upgrade to 4.0 and follow the guide - kinda a problem at the moment since I have no way of connecting my Wii to the net?
2. Should I install Preloader to reduce the risk of bricking my Wii?
3. Any other tips / advice would be most welcome since I'm new to the scene and would like to know what the more experienced modders would do if they had a Wii like mine.
