Problems with GAMESHARK and MODCHIP

n00b here, okay, so I'll go easy.

I have a phat PS2 with a mod chip. I don't know exactly the chip I got, and I don't know the firmware or the DVD burner I got. (If you need this info, tell me where I can see it).

What I do know if that it plays smoothly and great PS2 backups and original games.

I've tried using also Gameshark (V. 2.0) and Action Replay Codes, but it simply doesn't work on backups. However, on my original games it works amazing.

What I do:
1. I place the Gameshark CD in
2. Start the PS2
3. Once loaded the CD, I start my search for codes.
4. I select them and then I go to "start game"
5. After that, it asks me to swap discs, so I change my Gameshark to another backup
6. The game starts normally, but the codes simply don't. It's as if I never placed the gameshark.

So, tell me Am I doing something wrong?
Is my modchip wrong or something like it??

If this question has been replied before, let me know the thread to seek the solution to my problem.
