PSP1001 drnfffffd7 error on OFW 3.11 but can't update?

Hi guys,

I'm normally familiar with Xbox and 360 mods but recently my son bought a s/hand original PSP 1001 date code 5B. It has OFW 3.11.

The PSP works fine until we bought a game that needed to update the firmware. Fine I tried from the UMD Game but that failed with the DRNFFFFFD7 error so I went to Sony and downloaded the latest firmware and the same error occurs.

Now I have read the forums (nearly 4 hours worth) and understand that if you have CFW this might happen but As far as I can tell this PSP doesn't.

I've tried to pandora the battery with the view to go back to OFW 1.50 but it doesn't works saying it fails to load the game with another error code starting with an 8 but I don't think that's important.

I've tried
* eLoader
* 2.0/2.01 Easy Downgrader
* OFW 1.50 Update

But also fails saying fails to load the game when I try to run eloader itself with the same 8 error code..(I will provide it if you think its important).

I am totally stumped. I'm not bothered if this machine runs CFW or not as the games are so cheap now but I just want the PSP 1001 to work. I rang Sony and they said send it in, pay $140 Aus and they will fix it.

Can anyone help me? Have I missed something.

It's legal to make backup copies of your own games in Australia.
