cant get steering wheel to work on mario kart on wii

i recently downloaded mario kart for the wii but when i try to play it with the steering wheel it just wont work does anyono know y.

The steering wheel is just a shell. How can it not work?
Unless it's some different kind of steering wheel.
And how did you get the steering wheel if you downloaded it?

Edit: Actually I just thought about that it makes sense that you could have bought it separately.

But I'm still confused by this thread. I think I better go some where else now...
