I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge in modding the Nintendo Wii. I would appreciate that you share your expertise to guide and support me on this matter.I want to be sure everything is set up properly to prevent my Wii from being bricked. And also utilizing the USB loader Gx to backup my ISOs.I believe the USB loader gx is updated to play free region games, but I'm not sure.

Here are the steps that I have taken to softmod my Wii:

I used bannerbomb and it worked perfectly, however I have yet to install the BootMii beta 2 without further assistance.

Questions:
Do you need a separate SD card to back up your NAND with BootMi or can you use the existing SD card with the homebrew and apps file?

When you install the Wad manager 1.4, which ISO do you choose?
Mines doesn't show ISO249.

Is there a special software that you need to install for out of region ISOs,for instance UTSC-J or PAL ,to prevent updates from other regions?Or is the USB loader GX set up to where you can play free region games, without the fear of the wii being bricked?

I am also planning to install cIOS38_rev 13.
Would that be a good choice to get started?

Bootmii will want to format your card before it backups up your nand to the card.

It's best to use a different SD card.
Other wise you'll have to backup your SD card data on your computer or somewhere.
Also once you have backed it up you can copy the nand from the SD card to somewhere else.

I have my nand on the original SD card that I backed it up to.
I also have it on my computer and on a disc.
I have more than one nand from at a different time.
Just make sure that your computer can read it after you back it up.
Some people have had problems with this until they formatted their card with their computer before doing anything with Bootmii.

You won't be installing Wad manager 1.4
Wad manager will just be on your SD card as an app.
ISO=game IOS is what you meant to say as in IOS249.
You don't see IOS249 because you haven't installed it yet.
cIOS38 rev 13 is essentially IOS249 but not exactly.
IOS249 is the slot that the Waninkoko cIOS get installed to.
So when you install cIOS38 rev13 that will be your IOS249.
If you delete IOS249 in AnyTitleDeleter you won't have your cIOS anymore.
You won't be asked to update using the USB Loader.

And yes cIOS38 rev13 is a good place to get started although some people have issues with it. You can install almost any cIOS over the one you previously installed as they all install to IOS249.
There is a cIOS38 rev13b now
There are many sources for cIOS but it is a good idea to keep your eye on the site of Waninkoko who is the one who releases them. http://www.teknoconsolas.es/blogs/waninkoko

You have to at least have rev9 to use the USB loader.
