Ok, here is the storyline. My friends Wii was originally a 3.3u, I downgraded it to 3.2U, ran all the fixes via the guides, backups work fine. He gets the HBC update for 1.0.3 and decides it's cool and updates, then gets a black screen after entering HBC, no loading of the SD card. I then update his system to 4.0u but fail installing IOS60patched, IOS downgrader and cIOS38 rev13b. I end up being able to reinstall HBC 1.0.1 through the 4.0softmod but get an error trying to install cIOSv7. Try running backups in WiiGator Gamma and get disc read error 349, update HBC 1.0.3, now get disc read 324. From here I've tried all guides for 4.0NoCIOSfix, 4.0Softmod and BootMii getting errors installing. I've tried downgrading the system firmware down to 3.2u, errors installing IOS30, tried 3.4u, errors installing IOS50. I tried deleting IOS30, IOS50 and IOS249 to no avail.

I've run out of ideas from my limited knowledge of flashing the Wii. I'm wishing now that I haven't updated to 4.0u before I found the 4.0softmod where I was able to reinstall HBC 1.0.1. I'm afraid the system update is my downfall. From my understanding, with my Wii, started out with 3.2u and HBC 1.0.1, backups work fine. Updated system to 4.0u, ran fixes, updated HBC 1.0.3, backups work fine. Thats why I was fairly confident that updating his to 4.0u then running the fixes would help. Obviously I was wrong. Any ideas?

What cIOS do you have installed?

I haven't installed Boot Mii myself but it seems like Boot Mii blocks allot of the downgraders and installing cIOS's. I don't have much knowledge with the application but the website does say it blocks this stuff from being installed.

seems like it's a common problem on HBC 1.0.3, seen on the other board that they are experiencing same black screen when they updated to 1.0.3, so i stick to 1.0.1..

Larry are you aware if there is a wad channel for HBC 1.0.1?

I am almost positive that the HBC.wad file found in this guide HERE is 1.0.1 versioin.

UPDATE: I guess you can install cIOS with Boot Mii installed. I installed it and went from cIOS36_rev9 to cIOS38_rev12 and it installed fine.

that OK you updated it.

Why don't you make a factory reset. (you will loose all data)

Update it to 4.0 (if it is not already after reset)

Then you can fallow a guide and install homebrew :) (again since it will be gone)

Well looks like I'll be doing a factory reset. I tried using the updated anytitle delete, still couldn't delete IOS's. I did still have BootMii installed as an IOS, I uninstalled that but I still couldn't install patches or anything else. I tried installing preloader and cioscorp but during the preloader install got "failed to get root, current IOS36 has the fakesign bug fixed.

I believe the last cIOS that I installed before all of this was the cIOS fix.wad or actually I ran cIOS installer which patched the fix when I installed HBC in the begining. Since he's updated to HBC 1.0.3, then I updated the system to 4.0 but wasn't able to run IOS60 and so forth afterwards.

Well I ended up formating the system memory. FIrmware on the wi was still at 4.0 so i tried the 4.0 softmod guide from yafaze. I could downgrade IOS35, install IOS35 but got an error installing CIOS 7. Then tried the 4.0 no Cios fix guide from the same site, got same result. Then I tried the cios installer, and any other cios rev from 7 to 13b and all got error's. Only thing I was able to do was get HBC installed again but wouldn't let me install backup loader or IOS360 when was using the bannerbomb exploit install. Tried downgrading firmware again and no dice. Thanks to those who gave advice.
