Just got a Kreon drive and looking to update my firmware

If anybody could help/lead me in the right direction on updating my firmware, Hitachi (iXtreme 1.4 I believe) to the new 1.6 it would be appreciated. I'm also looking to replace a broken disc drive in my other 360. I know that it's most definately the lense because it's no longer mounted in the drive correctly. If you can help me with either of these things, again it would be appreciated.

not sure how your thread title relates to your post as they are two completely different things, but to update your hitachi, just use jungleflasher and flash it to 1.51 as 1.6 isnt out for hitachis yet. as for your other console, you can either replace the laser, or replace the entire drive. to replace the drive, you need to dump the FW thats on it right now, and flash it to the new drive.

alright thanks man. Do I need to put my xbox drive into modeB like I did when I modded it the first time? and of swapping the drive or replacing the laser which do you think is easier/cost effective?

you will have to flash your hitachi back to stock, then reput in mode b, and then reflash to 1.51. read the jungleflasher tutorial it tells you how to do this.
as for your other drive, replacing the laser would be cheaper, but i refuse to replace laser, i just replace the drive, i find it easier for me.

Get a BenQ. I am going to try and figure out the laser replacement since it's 1/3 the cost of a new drive. But in this case of a hitachi, you want to replace it. They are horrible.

you can try to use jungleflasher, but i had to use my slax cd on 2 different hitachi's so i'd keep it handy.

When I get a box with one of these, I always tell the customer there is a chance it won't work and they will need to replace the drive. Everyone I ever get has a crap laser and I have to do a POT cal on. Maybe then it will work. Wish they all had benQ's. LOL
