Some Flashing questions

I have a flashed XBOX 360 which somebody flashed for me like 2 yrs and so far it was running all my back ups fine but not any more with back ups of new games, so I am guessing I need to upgrade my firmware to 1.6.

My questions are

1. I have the key stored from my previous flash. Do I need that in any way now?
2. I have a Samsung drive on the 360, if I want to flash it myself now do I need to flash it back to what it was originally and then apply the new flash? If so then how?
3. Do i still need a VIA sata card to do the flashing thing, since I don't have it ?
4. The desktop I use now has Vista home premium 64 bit. Can I use that for flashing?

3. you need compatible sata
4. i use dosflash booted from a flashdrive so OS is irrelevant
