Ok, I have been using torrents for a long time but recently my hardware setup has changed. I use ABC as a torrent program, but afaik that shouldnt matter for this. As for the setup:
Internet > DWL-G730 AP (router mode) > linksys WRT-54G (DD-WRT firmware in client mode) > pc/360/PS3/etc.
now, I think I have it set up as 2 networks in hierarchy, I followed a guide so I'm not exactly positive what the technical term for what I did is.
LAN 1: (connects the 2 routers, is a wireless connection)
DWL internal IP = 192.168.0.1
WRT-54G External IP = 192.168.0.100 (assigned through static DHCP by DWL, will always be the same)
subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
default gateway = 192.168.0.1
DNS 1 = 192.168.0.1
LAN2: (connects WRT to all other devices, wired connection)
WRT-54G Internal IP = 192.168.0.129
subnet mask = 255.255.255.128 (I dont know why this is set this way, it was in the guide)
default gateway = 192.168.0.1
PC IP = 192.168.0.175
subnet mask = 255.255.255.128
default gateway = 192.168.0.129
DNS1 = 192.168.0.129
Using this setup the internet in general works fine, I can browse all sites play games etc, but ABC torrent files will never turn green (meaning they have unrestricted access)
So far, I have tried a couple things. Neither of them have worked.
First setup tried:
DWL: DMZ 192.168.0.100
WRT: port forward ABC port to 192.168.0.175
Second setup tried:
DWL: Port forward ABC port (and all other ports listed on portforward.com)
WRT: port forward ABC port to 192.168.0.175
I have another system DMZed for ease of use on my WRT so I didnt try to DMZ the PC on the WRT.
I prolly gave way too much information on this thread than needed but i figure better be safe than sorry, if anyone could help me figure out how to make this work it would be greatly appreciated.
PS: there may be a better way to set up the routers, at the moment I cannot run a cable to where my internet connection is from my PC, so I just have the WRT as a wireless bridge basically, I may not need 2 separate networks, but Im not quite sure how i would go about making it all 1 network.
You don't need to port forward necessarily. Turn off all port forwarding options you set as well as any DMZ settings. Then enable uPnP in your router as well as in your torrent client and see if it works. It could also be that your setup is fine but that your ISP is blocking your traffic.
Thanks for the reply, I actually got it to work by turning off DHCP on my second router and just letting the first one assign to everything, then setting static based on that. There really was no reason for 2 networks in hierarchy because there was nothing connected to the first network aside from my second router. Now its just 1 network and working perfectly.
