We opened it up and hooked it up to the computer.
I opened Jungleflasher and it isn't detecting the drive, is it ok to have the system on with the drive tray closed?
EDIT
We are worried now because when we turn it on it doesn't boot, 3 red lights flash.
I feel like complete crap because I think we killed it.
I think it might have gotten static shocked or something.
We turned it on once and it tried to boot but froze while doing the opening 360 logo.
IS THERE ANY WAY TO FIX THIS?! I doubt we can send this to MS since you have to remove the sticker to open the 360.
Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

Nobody is forcing you to look at this thread. This forum is about helping people, not being a coward and saying malicious things about other people... I too believe you should be banned.
On topic - Is the 360 still under warranty, and is there an error code? If it's under warranty I would send it in.

No its not under warranty and we ripped the sticker off when we opened up the xbox 360.
Thanks for keeping it real.
I gotta find a place to repair or hope to get lucky ourselves, lack of $$$ was the motivation for the flash.
Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

please EXPLAIN in as much detail as possible so the people here with common sense and knowledge can assist you.
Because to be honest your first post is just nonsense.

Okay here is what we did:
1. Disassembled 360 down to the steel cage, took all the plastic off.
2. Put the cage containing the usual stuff onto a side of a tower case on top of a carpet (the sata cable wasn't that long, had to plug the DVD ROM Drive in close to the tower).
3. Installed PortIO32 manually for Jungleflasher.
4. Turned the 360 on (using 360 power and AV cable plugged into TV).
5. Tried to find the drive using Jungleflasher, could not find it.
6. After awhile, the 360 seemed to have a graphic problem on the TV so we turned it off.
7. Tried to find the drive again, and another graphic problem happened.
8. So we put it on top of a pizza box on the carpet, and by that time it gave 3 flashing red lights, RROD.
9. We turned it on multiple times and it tried to boot once, but froze while doing the 360 logo intro.
Following Advice from etkasoe I used this guide:
http://xbox-experts.com/e/tutorial.php?n=geterrorcode and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLGkpmT7UnY
and got these results:
Lights flashing: 4142
Error Code: 0102
I read on a web site error code 0102 is:
0102 unknown error - literally means the console does not know what is wrong. possibly a short or cold solder joint somewhere. So far there is 1 major theory for what causes most of these errors is that the Ram, CPU, or GPU are not soldered properly to the mother board This can be solved by re-Heating the chips DO NOT attempt this if your console is still under warranty. If your console is still under warranty return it to the store where it was purchased or call MS to have it replaced.
I think at this point we should try the X-Clamp Fix and try the towel trick afterwards if need be.
Even though the console is RROD, should I still be able to have Jungleflasher or Iprep or 360 modification USB detect it for flashing?
Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

How did i guess you put it on your carpet?? Carpets and other cloths are static magnets and you should never EVER expose electonic circuts anywhere near a carpet, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triboelectric_effect
But anyway thats done and cant be helped now, i suggest you try the x-clamp but if this is the cause of your RROD i would be shocked if it will work but its certainly worth a shot.
Another alternative is buy a paper Microsoft Warranty sticker from ebay and send it in for repair, chances are they will send you a new xbox if its under warranty.
And yes you can still use your drive for jungleflasher etc

One make sure all cables and anything inside the 360 are connected.
no loose wires....
i have never seen this before but it sucks big time for you...
but i would make sure all the little things are fixed before your think about x-clamping the thing.

Is it possible that you removed a heatsink screw while disassembling?

I've had this happen to me a couple of times. In my case, after opening up the 360 and flashing the DVD drive, when I went to test it out... I got RRoD on one console and the other got E74. The consoles were working great before I opened them. My guess is just by opening them, did something to the solder in the GPU connection. I know over time the solder will crack or break because of the crappy solder MS used. I was very careful in opening the consoles too.
As for the fix, you will either need to send it back to MS or a x-clamp with a reflow of the GPU solder.

Things aren't as bad as you think, when I first started flashing drives I ran into the same problem with the rrod. All you need is Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound bought at radio shack, a T8 screwdriver, Some Goo Gone and Q-tips to remove the old compound on your chips, and some #8 washers that can be bought at WalMart. I'll paste a link to a vid that does a great job of explaining this. Oh, and please don't even joke about the "Towel Trick" it is only a temporary fix at best.

Since we are all doubtful we can fix it, and we believe all fixes to be temporary, we are just going to wait until we can buy a new one.
I'm not sure if we will try to flash it again. I could never get Jungleflasher to recognize the drive. If I can still flash the DVD ROM Drive with JF while the system is RROD, I want to do it!
Have people had success opening the system and sending it to Microsoft for repair?
Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

Majority of the time people will get a console that will last from MS repair.

you could always buy a warranty sticker off ebay as long as there is no visible signs of entry on the case. alot of people say they're fairly lax on inspection- i sent one in a few weeks back with a sticker that was far from perfect and the repaired it.
