Hi,
I have bought the game Mario Power Tennis and I am running it on a softmodded wii. I have version 4.0E and it asks to download wii system update. I refused it and now I am running the game using Wii Backup Launcher. Should I update? Should I backup my NAND? If I do update, will the Wii lock out the HBC, USB Loader GX and the Backup Launcher? If so, what should I do to keep them on?

Thank you very much...

As long as the game is the same region as your wii then there shouldnt be a problem letting the update run, some wii games contain a system update something similar to a driver for a computer to make the game run without any glitches. Also some games do contain the firmwares but mario power tennis contains updates that came out before firmware v4.0 :)

I believe you but...
I have seen a couple of videos on youtube saying that they have bricked their wii due to updating their console through mario power tennis. It will boot up as a black screen.
Do I need to format Wii system memory and update it and re-install the softmod?
Thanks
P.S: Grand Slam Tennis also needs a Wii update.

I have read somewhere that formatting the wii's system memory to try to restore it back to 'factory settings' once having HomeBrew channel installed etc can actually do more harm than good with bricking the wii.

This is one reason why i have an actual solderless modchip installed inside as you never know what softmods etc can brick your wii as the game system updates do not have a problem with a modchip.

I think there might be some IOS'S that you can install through the HomeBrew channel same as there was for the rock band games? that you could install instead of running the update if that makes you feel more comfortable doing?

Yeah sure that's fine if it doesn't do any harm to my system. Do you know any?
