modbo4 only works sometimes

i have installed 4 modbo 4's in a v4, v7 and 2 v14's. they all work great except the v4. when i turn on the ps2 the splash screen stays on for about 30 seconds then it will go ahead and boot. it loads originals every time but it will only work about 1/4 time on backups. any one have a similar problem? i have switched modchips with the v7 and the modchip is fine. i would appreciate any input. thanks

The laser in the V4 could very well be weaker than in the other models.
Could need cleaning.

What type of discs are you using DVD-R or DVD+R
