hello, i have just got a WII and want to now if i should get the WII chipped or do it soft. I have been looking for a couple of nights and i am struggling to understand how the soft one works. i presume you install homebrew and something else which allows you to play games off a SD or USB card. How big are the games ie how many games can you fit on a 4G or 8GB SD card. what format are the games, can you just get the games from rapidshare or torrent and save them to SD or do you have to burn a DVD.
I would like a idiots guide if anybody has one or someone to tell me the basics. I have a DS with a R4 is it similar to this ie roms?.
You don't HAVE to load the games from SD or USB, but it does make them run faster and puts less work on your DVD Drive. Games vary in size, if you download a full sized ISO it will be around 4GB which you can burn to a disc and load with a backup launcher, but if you shrink it to fit on a SD or USB, they can range from 300MB to 3GB.
Myself, I have a modchip. I have a D2Pro9, and the reason Imgot the modchip was the fact that Soft Modding and backup loaders were unheard of when I got my chip.
Do I regret getting the chip? NO!!! I don't have to fool with cIOS or backup launchers, I can just stick the disc in and play. I also don't have to worry about errors or black screens because a modchip make a backup game behave exactly like an original.
I will put it this way, if you want something that is 99% stable and know your backups will always work, a modchip is the way to go. BUT! Backup Launchers and Soft Modding have came a long way, and usually when a problem shows up in a game, it is only a few days before a fix is made.
If I was you, I would Soft Mod, and if you don't like it, you can always get a chip for about $30 or less.
I have a Drivekey which has been excellent. Easy to use. I also did soft mod and it bricked my Wii. It was my fault though for messing around with the IOS60.
