I have been using Dvdshrink for a month now and this is the first time I get this error...
'Failed to read file "E:"
Copy Protection Error-The read failed because the sector is encrypted.'
I also tried burning it with DvdXCopy, same results...

You are trying to burn a DVD that can't be easily "decrypted". Try the trial of AnyDVD and see if it decryptes it. Or, if you want to you can get DVD43 which is almost the same thing as AnyDVD but, its free and AnyDVD is not.
P.S. what DVD is it?
P.P.S. Have you tried to rip it w. DVDDecrypter?

One word of Warning about DVD43:
I was trying to backup Jungle Book 2 (So the kids don't mess it up) and when using DVD43 DVDShrink give me an error that says:
Failed to read file "D:/"
Data Error
(cyclic redundancy check)
P.S. Even w. AnyDVD it still gave that error. weird.

lol, maybe it can't decrypt as well as we hoped!
Anyway, did AnyDVD work? If you did not download the Trial, I own it, and it rocks.

Try cleaning the disk. That fixed my problem.

Just a note; I did Road to Perdition with DVDShrink 3.16 about a month ago, no problems at all.

Also, on some disks, it seems that a combo of dirt on the disk and causeing the program to slow down the rip by doing a Preview while it does a "deep analisys" can causes this.

yeah even if the disc appears to be flawless it doesn't mean that it is
some discs I have had to clean 6 or 7 times to get a full read
I used DVD Decrypter n it backed up road to perdition easily

I had the same problem on several different DVDs when I switched from DVD Shrink 3.14 to 3.17. Something has changed in this update. I switched back to 3.14 and it worked no problem. Try an earlier version.

I am lost! I have tried everything... Found shrink3.1.4 and still nothing. AnyDVD does the same thing as DVD43 (cyclic redundancy etc.)...Any other suggestions or should I just give up?
Lost in thought, Al
P.S. It gets to about 60% and then it gives me that message. It does just about the same on decryptor and Xcopy

What are your settings in Decrypter?
Try using Brute Force.
Also, w. AnyDVD enabled, did you try and just copy the files directly from the DVD to your HD?
Finally, make sure that you disconnect from the web and shut down EVERYTHING that your PC does not need to run. (i.e. messenger, antivirus, firewall, etc.)

Changed settings on decryptor and still got an error message.
Shut down everything else on my comp and still no luck.
What do you mean by copy files directly to HD?
dou you mean with shrink or something?

no, if you have AnyDVD enabled (or DVD43) then, go to the drive that the DVD is in and go to the Video_TS folder. Then, open it and select ALL of the files in that folder. Then copy EVERY file to a directory of your choice.
From there, select "open files" in DVDShrink and select the folder that you copied the files to.
Then it is just like your running DVDShrink on a original DVD that is in a drive.

I spent many hours last night trying to rip it to the HD and burning with all my programs and still no luck.
Never heard of SVSshrink before but I'll look it up.
I've narrowed down the problem to VTS_01_4...

I GOT IT!
I read another forum and saw that someone was having a proplem with the 'cyclic' error and I tried to rip it to my HD using my burner instead of my reader and it worked.
I would like to thank all of you guys for all of your help.
I greatly appreciate how quickly you gave me new Ideas.
Hope I can help you guys soon, Al
