Okay I'm new at this but here's what happened I had an Hitachi 79 that died so I bought a BenQ drive and spoofed it to read as an Hitachi using J/F and I used the Benq 1.6 firmware. I have noticed that thier's an 0800x firware but I didn't use that on my drive which was manufactured 4\08. So now the problem is the drive doesn't read orginals or backups. it does open and close so I don't thinks it's bricked but do you flash the drive again after you've spoofed it as an hitachi? here's the steps I followed from a guy that tried to help me.

-here's the steps I followed now I didn't try an orginal and when following these steps I did the patching(source and target) with the drive off. then when doing the flashing I turned the drive on now I did get a message stating the target drive hadn't been spoofed do you want to continue so i did and it flashed the drive which reads as a hitachi. Here's the steps I followed.

its simple, open jungle flasher and open your hitachi 79 firmware as the source firmware then open a BENQ ixtreme 1.6 firmware as the target firmware,

click spoof source to target,

then check that the keys match in both boxes ALSO make sure it says in the target box spoofed as: (whatever drive your spoofing in bold),

click save to file and save your custom created BENQ firmware. Now onto the flashing,

make sure the BENQ is hooked up and powered on and open jungle flasher, open the mtk flash 32 tab,

make sure your BENQ is showing up in the drive properties and simply click Benq UnLock in the top right corner, it should say in the log sending Magic Keys blah blah blah, if it says done your drive is in vendor mode,

your now ready to flash the spoofed firmware to the drive.

Make sure you get status 0x73 which can be found in the flash chip properties bottom row.

Now go into firmware tool 32 tab and click open target firmware and open up the spoofed BENQ firmware,

then open the mtk flash 32 tab again and click on write near the bottom right corner,

it will write all 4 banks and if it says write verified ok! then your done flashing,

now above the write tab click Outro/ATA Reset.

The drive should appear in the drive properties as a hitachi 79 drive (because thats what you spoofed it as).

I did all this except when spoofing I had the drive off while doing the reading target and source patching. I had kept the orignal bin before my Hitachi died and still have it but I didn't read the Benq drive so can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Read the firmware again off the BenQ to make sure it says "SPOOFED AS HITACHI 79" and also your key is in the firmware.

I did that last night and it does indeed say hitachi79 but again after you've spoofed the drive are you suppose to flash it as a hitachi? that's where I'm lost.

Once you spoof firmware as a Hitachi, it will indeed show as a Hitachi. If you flashed the spoofed firmware to the BenQ, that part is done. Now, what kind of message are you getting when you try to read games? Open Tray?

Exactly-I put the game in(orginal or backup) and it says the same thing -Open tray. I'm sure it's not bricked and had thought about flashing it again as an hitachi 79 with J/F but I wanted to make sure it's not something easy I'm missing- any ideas?

Since the firmware is correct, I'd say it is the laser struggling to read through the dye of the backup. But then again it is weird that it is doing it on originals also. Look up XBOX 360 POT calibration.

Let me ask you-would it be okay to spoof it again just to see what happens? even though it reads as a hitachi could I go ahead and spoof it again following the benq to hitachi method?

first off your topic is stupid change it and it's against the rules. Second load hitichi as source and benq as target. Hit spoof, then write, then outro that's it. If you get open try error, then you need to boost the laser or the laser is simply bad.

do as leerage stated and look into the POT tweak. also, it could be due to using crappy media. make sure you are using verbatium dual layers as they are the best choices to use. they cost a little more, but will make up for it in the long run.

Putting "Question?" in the topic is against the rules dude. No way to argue with me on that one. It is has bad has putting "help me" in the topic. It helps everyone on here help you faster. Most people will simply skip over these topics.
