After like 3 months my Wii turns on and plays discs but the video ( the audio is normal) is distorted bad, white verical stripes, black is red blurs i opened it up and saw that the graphics chip has scratches the weird thing is that it was never opened before...... and my cousins wii doesn't start up she said it just stays at a black screen with the power light on green? i dont know but wiis seem cheap to me do they break easy? maybe its defective from the factory should i give NOA a call? Ive tried different cables i bought new wii cables from gamestop same stripes.

Yeah I'd give Nintendo a call.
People have had problems with the graphics card (Hollywood) causing display issues. And for many it only got worse.
I am assuming from what you wrote that it hasn't always been this way.

Your cousin's Wii could be a lot of different things but I don't think you are trying to solve that issue. :)
And yeah some Wii are going to be defective. At least it isn't as bad as the 360.

And although a bit unrelated, I guess with the move from cartridge media to disc media there will always be moving parts to read the data. So I guess it kind of makes sense that the newer generation of console won't last as long as the older generation.
I still have my NES, SNES, and Genesis which still work. And while my luck on disc based systems has been better than most, I have had to replace Dreamcast at least twice and put a new laser in the PS2. The Gamecube doesn't work quite as well as it used to either.
My Wii is certainly better at reading Gamecube games than my Gamecube.
