So, I have a collection of XviD's and they are in cd1 cd2 or namea.avi nameb.avi in folders. Does anyone know if there is a program that will automatically join ALL the movie segments in the Root and its subfolders? Probably not but i have over 700 movies and dont want to do it manually with Virtual Dub if i dont have to.

I don't think there is a program that can do it. Instead of virtualdub I use avidemux. Add first file then append second file, next add it to the joblist, then do it again for all the files then run the all the job's in the joblist.

I have never tried avidemux, I usually just use VDub. But I do imagine that with 700 movies it would be a pain. However, I am like jony there, I don't know of any automated program that will run it for you.

The best i can offer is Avidemux, i've joined up to 3 parts, am sure it'll do more. Not heard of anything automatic though.
Avidemux prompts for different things depending on what it finds in the files (probably a reason why there's probably no automated tools out there for this) and it's very quick; one good thing i've found is that (so far), if it prompts you to unpack the stream or file (can't remember the exact message), i don't bother and it's a lot quicker, the resulting joined files seem absolutely fine.

I previously used to use DVD Flick for it's join feature, i was introduced to Avidemux and i haven't been near DVD Flick since, a saving of an hour each moive that needs joining (but to be fair to Flick i very rarely convert AVI to DVD now, no point, i now keep them as is, but i digress).

bit of a long-winded way around, but I know Xilisoft has a 'comprise into one' option for its DVD Ripper. it doesn't have one for its editor, but you... possibly burn the files onto a DVD, then re-rip as one file. irritating, but it'd definitely be an option and I think would be quicker than doing them all individually with AviDemux, or the like.

Avidemux is free, Xilisoft is spamware....

why do you call it so? I've used and tried millions of DVD rippers, but that's the one I always seem to go back to. from my point of view, manually joining 700+ avi files, into one file would be worth purchasing a piece of software that would do it automatically for me. if the software is free, but it takes me days to do something, that's actually costing me more money than an automated, paid version.

It's because it's one of a handful of paid-for products that's spammed here many times a day, sort of puts you off a product when you have to remove 5 to 10 Xilisoft spammers every single day. Who knows, it may actually be a decent program but i prefer to use free and genuinely advertised paid-for products personally. If nothing else i'd have subscribed to this thread and lurked silently as simply mentioning the product will attract more spammers. Case in point ~ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/542256

Anyways, if it works for you, that's great.

that's completely understandable, but for this instance, I see it as the only suggestion that is an automated process. you write all the files to DVD, then rip them as one file. for me, that'd condense hours of arduous, irritating and wasteful time, that you'd have to sit at and persist with, to only an hour or two of burning and ripping, that you could be doing other things with your time.

if that's people's view of said product, does that mean people will blank my thread, http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/780843 because I've used it, and not one of the afterdawn's favourites?

No i'm sure there are other people that use this software, in fact it's listed in Afterdawn's software section.
Anyways, if it's a better and more time-efficient method, that's great and helpful for others. As i say i prefer my own methods but certainly won't restrict other suggestions/products, unless it's spam of course :)

(p.s. i can't help on your other thread, i only really use AutoGK to convert DVD to AVI, and DVDFab Platinum for the odd movie that converts out of sync (and i've so far concluded after many hundred conversions recently that the only ones that were out of sync were Disney movies ripped long ago by DVDFab back before i knew that DVDFab produces unclean rips, but i digress).

Good Day.
I see your files are in divx. I use Nero Xpress and can drag and drop between 5 or 6 2 hour movies(depending on size) onto a DVD-R and they are capable of playing on a DIVX compatable DVD Player. (mine are Philips and Sylvania Players.
Hope this helps you save $$$$.
