Hi. I will start off by saying I've used Google, and I've read for hours here, SKS Apps, checked Digg for info, etc. I used a this guide at SKS Apps, and was successful. Then I found another guide under the tutorial section, but it was pretty much the same thing. One says to use Independence Compiler 4.1 and the other uses PS2 Exploit Utility. They're the same app, just one is newer and has a few extra features. I used the 4.1.
Anyway, I want to know how to put Free McBoot 1.8b on it. I downloaded the noob pack, as I am a total noob to this. I just got somewhat flustered and confused. I didn't know what any of this was until a night or two ago. I can't remember how long it's been as I've spent over 20 hours straight per day reading everything. I'm using CodeBreaker v9.0 with PNY Attache 512MB USB 2.0 flash drive. I cleared off a memory card, then re-formatted it using the utility built-in to CodeBreaker. Just an FYI, I don't like to use acronyms all the time because if someone else reads this for the first time they won't know what any of it is, like myself. I read enough until I knew that ULE should be uLE and is uLaunchELF, FMCB is Free McBoot, SMS is Simple Media System, etc.
I got lost as I've seen where some said they don't need the loader CD; the original pressed PS1 game. I don't know how to do that. I don't know how to get Free McBoot on the memory card and how to set it all up. I want to know if I can run Disc ID utility on the memory card, or else burn it to disc, CD for CD ID's and DVD for DVD ID's respectively, and load it. I do not have a mod chip. I may buy one though. That being said, I read somewhere on here where someone mention that you're supposed to be able to load ELF files via USB and/or memory card with Matrix Infinity Green Dot, is that not possible with DMS4 Pro S.E.? Also, why use this exploit if you have a mod chip? I'm really new to the whole modding thing, so I'm really wondering if there's a way to run the apps off the USB flash drive, or a hard disk drive; be it internal or external. I also got a little confused at to what backups this lets you play, and how to patch the disc. Is it for PS1 CD's, PS2 CD's, and/or PS2 DVD's? And correct me if I'm wrong, but if it's a dual layer disc, it needs to be patched with something that I guess makes it be able to read dual layer disc? That kills my question prior to the last, since DVD's are only on the PS2 and DVD's are dual layer and not CD's.
I have a ton of games, and a lot that are just ISO's sitting on my computer because I somehow managed to put a white looking scuff/scratch on some of my PS2 disc and the PS2 can't read it but the computer can. I don't know why the computer can, but the PS2 can't. I would just like to be able to play them again. As far as backing them up, I believe I have all of the software I need to backup my games correctly. As soon as I figure this out I plan on archiving all of my PS1 games.
In short I want to know, step by step (sorry), how to put McBoot 1.8b on my memory card, load with uLaunchELF 4.39 (which I've read is one of the better loaders), add a decent/good media player, get both hard disc loading utilities for internal and external so that I may keep my games on my PS2 that I play all the time and just transfer last minute things onto an external I have. BTW, my PS2 is a v4, the old (large/"fat" style). I hate calling them fat. Anyway, I want to know if I read up on, and do the other exploit on a different memory card for a slimline version if I could take my USB HDD and connect at my cousin's for the times that I visit him?
Oh, few more last minute questions, as I just remembered. Do I need Swap Magic? I read something about having to put a swapmagic.elf on the memory card for something or another. What's that for? I read that it can be done with a GameShark and CodeBreaker as well, but not an Action Replay.
Basically, if you could either give me a step-by-step tutorial/guide with links to anything I may need to read or download (please), or just point me to the guides that actually cover this. Please keep in mind that I am a noob, and I don't fully understand all of this and if it's in some terms that I don't understand or very very poor english it really won't help me.
One other quick thing, can I add an emulator to play SNES ROMs? I have an SNES and the game Super Mario World or whatever, and I like it, but I don't have the cord that goes from the SNES to the TV. From what I understand, it's not illegal to have a ROM or ISO if you legally own the game. I only have a few SNES games, and they're all I really like (mainly Mario stuff, like All Stars). I just want to play those and that's it. I do apologize if even mentioning this is against the rules, I'm not asking how to pirate anything or whatever. If it is a conflict of interest, etc, I will gladly remove it from the post.
Thanks much in advance, I hope I've stated all of that correctly. I can't really think straight lately do to lack of sleep.

Wow that is some write up. I will do my best to answer all, if I miss a question, you can just ask again.
First off you have a V4 PS2 and a Codebreaker 9.2 and a USB drive
So for you too install fmcb 1.8, you need all that and the noobie package and just follow this tutorial. - link
If you need to know more about fmcb 1.8 read this tutorial also to make sure you have all the Applications (ELF files that you want on the USB drive, before you Install) - link
Do the Multi-Install, that way it will work on any other PS2 of the same region.
This thread here will basically explain the process to play backups using fmcb 1.8 and ESR - link
uLaunchelf tutorial - link
Most files you need or emulators and tutorials can be found right on sksapps.com - link
Now you ask why people with modchips, want fmcb 1.8
Mainly because of the ease of running ELF files from the memory card.
It is so easy. But fmcb 1.8 is not compatible with most modchips and must be disabled to use the fmcb 1.8
Hope that helps you out a bit.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I can't really dig into any of this right now, as my computer is kind of shot and my internet connection is off. (My dog needed surgery, so I let the net go.) Although, I've pretty much read all of the tut's at SKS. I just got lost somewhere. I'll re-read them all though. Thanks for giving links to everything though. I will be sure to check them out.
