About 2 weeks ago, I successfully flashed my Benq on my first attempt using the newest version of Jungle Flasher and DosFlash 32. Then I came across this collection of files titled "BenQ.Xtreme.and.iXtreme.Samsung.FW.Spoofs 1.0", but I later read that Xtreme firmware does not exist for Benq only iXtreme. I read within few forums across the internet that stated that DVD5 backups could be read without any hassle by spoofing a Benq to a Samsung. So I decided to try it for the sake of booting a backup on my 360. Well, I flashed xtrem53d.bin. In the Xtreme 5.3 folder 4 files exist, named and followed by a letter. I don't know that the letters mean, so I flashed the last one. Prior to this, I spoofed the key to the firmware before I flashed, and created several backups of the original stock firmware. The BenQ.Xtreme.and.iXtreme.Samsung.FW.Spoofs 1.0.rar file can only be found through a torrent, and if it had been removed from sites that hosted this .rar file I should of realized it was dangerous but people spoke about it. I'm to sure it's legit, or I may have flashed the wrong file because I was going to flash xtreme53a.bin. I know that for newer games ixtreme is the way to go but I just wanted to boot a XBOX 1 backup just for the satisfaction of actually witnessing my 360 boot a backup. For XBOX 1 backups I have my original XBOX nor I need discs as I have stated on my sig.
It bricked my Benq, and I literally bashed my head in the wall for being an idiot. I waited a few days until I completely stomached my mishap before attempting to restore my 360. I did some research. I had to use iPrep and the newest version of DosFlash16 because my PC would freeze when I would boot into windows. Benq has the firmware recovery feature, so all of us who own Benq drives are fortunate. My PC doesn't boot flash drives nor floppy discs (removed the floopy drive, who uses floppy discs these days?)
All the tutorials showed how to boot from a USB drive and floppy, but never explained how to boot from a CD. I've been programing computers for years and common knowledge is that with a command line you can do virtually anything. Since I consider myself highly skilled, I use Lunix more than windows, command lines are a no brainier. I used a Windows 98 installation disc to boot iPrep directly from a CD. I ran the disc and aborted the installation. Upon doing so, a command line remains. Eject and place the disc burned with the files iPrep created along with the CFW your going to flash because from a CD firmware cannot be read only flashed. I typed: "intro" a general reading error message is displayed on screen, this is normal, typed F for fail and it booted into iPrep menu.
The latest version of Dosflash 16 is more user friendly since the manual commands are no longer necessary but they can be used. Run the app by typing Dosflash, it will search for attached devices and it will send the Intro command to the DVD Drive. If it can't unlock, turn off the drive before proceeding. Type yes, then turn it back on until Dosflash detects the DVD drive. At this point, type the appropriate number that corresponds to the SATA Primary Master. Type w for write, and then the final step was to type the name of the CFW. Upon detection, it will automatically erase the drive first, and it will then flash the file. Since iPrep was booted from a disc only to recover from a brick not to read the OFW nor to spoof the drive. the initial OFW reading was done by using Dosflash 32 by using windows. When a drive bricks windows cannot be used because it will freeze when attaching the SATA plug into the drive.
I wanted to share my experience and how I recovered by using iPrep booting from a CD.
