What is the best guide to follow for burning .avi movies to a dvd disc.
Here is my situation. I have to seperate movie files that are 700mb each but are two separate parts of the same movie. so basically what I am looking to do is combine the two to create the full length movie and burn them to a DVD disc to watch on a dvd player. they don't have to be perfectly together like a professional would do, just so that i don't have to load another dvd into the tray.

~and freeware programs would be the best

thank you

You want to create a DVD from the two files?
Use DVD Flick.
'Add Title' (load part one).
'Edit Title' > Video Source' (load part two) > 'Accept'
'Create DVD'.

When you 'Edit Title', the two files are merged into one movie.

DVD Flick is easy to use and quite good, I hear, fairly involved guide to show what's what: http://beginwithsoftware.com/videoguides/dvd-flick-guide.html To join your file's first, use AviMux_Gui: http://www.alexander-noe.com/video/amg/ (vl 17.8-binary)Open the first avi and drag the second in, highlight both by highlighting the first and dragging your cursor over the second, select generate data and in the lower window, highlight audio and select start to make a new avi to use. Also check each avi first for any constant sync issue by opening it in AviMux_Gui, highlighting and selecting generate data. In the lower window, highlight audio and any delay will appear to the right in ms. If other than 0, make a new avi to use by selecting start. The original avi will likely play fine on the pc and joining or fixing sync only take's a minute. Both free. Edit: didn't know DVD Flick merged, good to know.

i use ConvertXtoDVD v2 mainly, started using DVD Flick just for it's merging ability, though now i use Avidemux for joining as it's obviously infinitely quicker and i rarely convert to DVD anymore, just to create DVD's for the kids (plus as good as Flick is, it leaves a gap in the joined movie). For a totally free solution Avidemux or similar can be used to join then Flick can be used to convert.

May God forgive me - I tremble to contradict - DVD Flick does not leave a gap in merged files.
Here's a sample I just made - if it's loaded into a player that shows frame numbers, it's frame 155, almost exactly at the five second mark.

Oh, a few of mine have a gap, maybe i missed something ?.
It's a moot point as i say, i've given up converting to DVD for the most part, but i don't want to give out incorrect info..

If you elect to burn the DVD, it uses ImgBurn (part of the package).
