Game shark help for final fantasy 10

I have gameshark broad band and Iam having trouble putting my codes on my final fantasy x game, this is what Ive done, gone into master cheats selected the game, went into the code part of it to make sure it was high-lighted and took some the codes that I didnt want off....pressed start...put my game in nothing worked, I even tried pressing select when the game started loading and when that didnt work. I even waited till after the sphere gride guide.....nothing!
what am I doing wrong!:(
