Hi,

I bought a new Wii yesterday and the seller said that it is softmodded.
All I could find inside was Gecko OS along with the usual Wii channels. All of the games that I tried play in the Disc Channel (They are all burned dvds). So, does that mean I got one which was hard modded instead of soft? I touched the Wii for the first time yesterday and I don't think I would be able to rip it apart to look for the chip inside. Is there any other way to find out what kind of mod it is?

Other details:
Korean Wii in English (Does that mean hard mod?). 3.2U
Plays MarioKart, No more heros, FIFA 08...

If you can play the games on the disk channel without doing anything but putting in the DVD it's hardmodded

1) Backup Launcher is old. Neogamma is new http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=158884
1A) to get the Neogamma Channel http://www.gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=165485
2) Superdump (Requires homebrew) dump your game in 30 minutes. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/780900
3) Make your Wii skip updates! Use preloader 0.29 and enable skip updates. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Preloader
4) Scared of Bricking your Wii? Make an NAND backup! Install BootMii http://bootmii.org/install/

That's not necessarily true. There is a guide stickied to this very forum explaining how to play games from the disk channel through softmodding. It seems to be specific to 4.0 only because there is a lot of back and forth with the IOSs (upgrading/downgrading).

I don't know if there is some way to find out if your Wii is soft or hardmodded. Maybe someone else can help you with that.
