I am trying to burn to a DVD+R DL disc. I have both Verbatim and "Aone Premier" discs. Both are giving me the same error. Here is the log from imgBurn. You will notice there were three burn attempts the first two to a Verbatim disc that had failed once before with the fixation error and the third to a new Aone disc. Both types of disc gave the same error on the first burn.

I have already attempted to update the firmware of my burner from

ATAPI DVD DD 2X16X4X16 G7N9 (ATA)

to

ATAPI DVD DD 2X16X4X16 G7Z9 (ATA)

but it does not appear to have made any difference.

obviously the retry failed all 20 times. Any suggestions because it seems that every time this fails I have myself a rather expensive coaster.

ImgBurn does have a 'Test Mode' on the main window - which will save the coaster.
Since the Calibration error is generated by the burner - and you have updated the firmware - all I can suggest is that if you can, set the burn speed higher to 4x instead of

Speeds: 2.4x
- if it will allow it.

It would also appear that your drive is more than a few years old. A new burner (they are only about $25) would greatly increase your chances of success.

surely there must be an alternative. The drive supports dvd w dl according to the nero tool so i dont understand why it should be this hard.

Have i updated to the right firmware i dont understand the version numbering. I only assume z is more recent than n.

It appears your UME and Verb discs are a new 8X variety. I doubt your burner, even with the latest firmware, has any write strategies for them.

there was no date next to the firmware. I also assumed that 8x was the max speed and burning slower than that wouldnt be a problem
