When coverting analogue video from a camcorder into MPEG using a video bridge device (i.e. ADS USB Instant Video for CD) the volume of the audio is way to high and distorted. I tried playing around with the sound settings in my computer's control panel (running XP), but could not solve it, the only thing I could do was drop the sound totally off. I don't have a volume controll on my camcorder or at least can't find one. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Well your Capture software should have a Volume controll...You can allways use a Good audio editing Program Like Sound Forge or Goldwave to Lower the Volume and clean it up a Bit...
I have heard nothing but bad things about the ADS USB capture device, How do you Like it???

Thanks for the advice Minion. The software does have an audio control, but the volume, other settings are greyed out for some reason ? When I fiddle with the sound settings in my computer's control pannel, if I choose my default sound card (crystal audio) as opposed to the other choice which is the ADS capture device, then the volume sttings are availabe in the ADS software, but then, as it's now using the computers sound card and not the ADS capture device (i.e. not the line in) I can't hear any sound from my source video so it's no good either.

The ADS capture device was o.k. and it worked pretty much as advertised. Worked with a variety of video editing software (i.e. other than just the ADS software). The video capture quality wasn't the greatest, but I needed the USB interface and using a laptop couldn't import too many high quality video files anyway, so was good for my needs. But the customer support was terrible, I contacted ADS a while back re: the sound problem and they still haven't responded. I've since returned the unit and am lookiing for an alternative. Any recomendations on a good video capture device that will work with USB ?

In Generall USB units Suck pretty Bad because usually the Compression is Done on the Device which in most cases the Device doesn"t use a Very good Encoder Chip as the Good Encoder Chips are very expensive...The only USB 2.0 devices I would recomend are Quite expensive at about $400 and they are the Canopus USB Mpeg encoder Devices, If you go over to here:
http://www.canopus.us/US/products/MPEGPRO_MVR/pm_MPEGPRO_MVR.asp
You will see one of the best USB Devices which can produce near DVD quality from high Quality sources, but other than these Devices i would not recomend any....Good Luck
