i dont have my wii chipped with the mod chip.
basicly this is what happened,
the other day i was installing new wii menu themes, 2 or three of them worked and everything was fine, but after i installed one and went back to the menu, it was just black. so i restarted my wii, and it was just black.
no sound,
i did the thing were u plug in the GC controlor into the 4th port and hold down all the d-pad buttions,
all that happenes is 4.0(USA) is displayed at the bottom of the screen,
u can hear the disk spinning inside but nothing happens,
plz help.
i have no idea what to do.

What you would need to do is use a disc with a higher firmware to update. But since you have 4.0, not only is there no disc (I think) with 4.0, Nintendo hasn't even released a firmware above 4.0 so the time when a disc with a firmware above 4.0 will be even longer.
The other thing that you could do is to get a modchip that supports autobooting. I can't guarantee that it would work though.
The savemii chip is actually supposed to get you to the point that Punk9 is at, that is with the system version displayed at the bottom of the screen. Punk managed to accomplish this already with the gamecube pad or as they call it the savemiifrii because it's the same as the savemii, just free.
The disc is spinning because at this point it is currently willing to accept an update from a disc. It's just that it has to be a higher version and without a modchip, a legitimate disc.
Edit: I'm not the biggest fan of Cioscorp, but someone in this situation with cioscorp installed would be alright.
yea,
im thinking about getting a modchip.
now i know the ony thing i have to do, is go to the homebrew channle and reinstall a sysetm menu, so basicly i need the"autoboot" feature, so when im at the 4.0(USA) sreen i can put in the autoboot homebrew DVD disk i burned and go to it. but im wondering which chip i should buy, i dont the extra features, i just need the autoboot, and works with every wii, and one the is attached like drivekey and wiikey is. SOLDERLESS
which do you preferr,?
If you want to unbrick your wii, then use bootmii and go to the homebrew channel from there, if you have it, or this won't work. Then use softmii or my menu and change the theme. This happened to me once and this is what i did.

He said in his first post that he dosen't have anything like Preloader, Bootmii etc.etc.
This thread just shows how important Bootmii or Preloader is and needs to be installed before screwing with your theme settings.
