Alooooha to the guys are Afterdawn,
I've been lurking here for a few days, and I finally decided to join the group, as the people here seem to be very knowledgable. Well, I just recently purchased a Pacific Digital Mach-8 from Office Max (But puter recognizes it as a LiteOn), and I have to say, this DVD burning stuff sure is complicated. I have few problems that I'd like to address here, to all you well seasoned burners.. :)

1) I went through the guide, and learned about DVD Shrink. I use Nero to burn. I've had a few discs come out ok, but I've had a problem with movies showing pixels, then freezing up, and then making screeching sounds. I've exprienced this with Fellowship of the Rings, Two Towers, and Runaway Jury.

2) When I try to make data disks, using Nero, It freezes up. When I tried making a backup disk, using Nero, it took a while to recognize, my large folder of MP3's and pics, but when I hit backup, it says it's reading source path information, and it never progresses from there. I've let it run for about two hours with no progress.

3) On an off the topic note, I also bought a Western Digital 1.1/2.0 USB external hard drive, and I'm having problems copying my files to it. I'm trying to copy large folders, and I believe that I only have the standard 1.1 USB port. I was able to copy my 28 gig folder of MP3's in about eleven hours, but after I tried to move a smaller folder (20 gigs) containing various mp3's, jpegs, etc.. It starts to copy, but after about 4 gigs, it stops and says that there is an "Error Moving File or Folder", cannot move (name of the file) the directory or file cannot be created. I then have to create another folder, and then the same thing happens after so many gigs, then again, then again...

4) Another thing about the HD, it's an 80 gig, but after copying only about 38 gigs, I only have about 19 gigs of space remaining. How is that possible?

Can someone help in these various problems? I'm using Khypermedia 2.4 DVD+R's, but expecting Riteks from Meritline shortly...

P4 1.7 G
256 megs Ram
Windows XP PRo
80 gig hard drive (8 gigs of space remaining)
Pacific Digital Mach8 (LiteOn)
Western Digital 1.1/2.0 USB 80 gig External

Thanks.

Hi Crusaders,

Well the Ritek should solve your first problem.

For prob 2 I would again try the Riteks and possibly remove and reinstall Nero.

For 3 I would consider getting an adapter card so you can run USB 2.0.

It sounds like problem 2 and 3 are related somehow.

Problem 4: I don't know why its doing that. I have the same WD 80 GB external. I partitioned mine into two 40 GB sections and changed the default FAT32 file system to NTFS. You may just need to re-format it.

Good luck,
Frank

It may not be a bad idea to disable your antivirus and spyware programs if you have them before you burn a movie, this can cause skips and glitches. Using good quality medium also helps as far as picture quality. Some medium that I use include; tdk, maxell, sony, and memorex. It also sounds like you might have a lot of spyware/adware files on your computer. Remove these files with a free ad-aware program you can find on the net at www.adaware.com. If this doesn't work try to reformat your hard drive like our other friend said. Good luck with your burn projects. strone
