Ok, I've ripped DVDs before in the past, but I've never been able to do it with ASPI. I have problems all the time and I assume that's why. Anyway, apparently my Compaq has NO ASPI drivers, according to Adaptec's aspichk.exe program. So I installed ASPI 4.7 and ran install.bat xp32 from the command prompt. The installation performed fine. I also ran aspichk again and it showed that the neccessary files WERE installed. But, now when I got back to SmartRipper, or DVDx, neither program will recognize that I have ASPI drivers. Even worse than that, now the program I use to rip audio CDs, CDex, says I have to wrong ASPI files and won't run. I just downloaded the newest ones! I don't care so much about the CDex problem, but I'd love to know why SmartRipper and DVDx don't recognize my ASPI files.

I did run the REG_XP.exe file that comes with the ASPI 4.7 package from Adaptec's website, and nothing happened. I ran it from the Command prompt just plain double-clicking and from the Run line. What does that mean?

try running install.bat from a command line using the following format for XP:

c:\install.bat xp32

make sure to reboot.. run aspichk.exe again after rebooting to see if you have the correct version.

ASPI not needed. Start playing DVD first, then open smart ripper, when it says no ASPI click ok. all files will be readable.
no ASPI message pops up for me every time, but I have never had a problem ripping needed files.
