Which DVD Copy Program?

I have located Platinum at my local Best buy that has the ripper included for $149.00.

It this the best route?

It has the ripper. Now that is my other question what is the difference between a ripper and encryptor.
One click copy software for $49.00 says you need to find download file DVD 43 out on the net.

Getting confused here, has anyone had exp with Clonner II program or the One click copy program, or Platinum?

Should I run down to best buy and get the last of the Platinum software while I still can.

This is confusing... Please help me before I drown. :)

why not just use DVD Decrypter its free n does a very good job
dvd2one gives you a trial period and dvdshrink is free also
and spend the money ya was gonna spend on software on media instead

If you really need to have a one click program that might be the way to go. I would not do it. I have expensive Xcopy stuff that I never use. I paid a bunch for it and now I don't want to throw it out.

You don't need to spend anything if you just want to make copys.

DVD Shrink (free) and DVD Decrypter (free) will work at least as well as Xcopy Platinum.

A ripper removes the encryption (copy protection) from your movie and places the files on your hard drive in a folder. The burning program then burns this folder to your blank disc.

But will DVD Decrypter decode a movie DVD greater than 4.36 GB?

DVD Shrink works awsome. If it has trouble (very rare), then I try DVD Decrypter first. I tried the demo version of XCopy a few months ago with poor results, I got lots of pixelation that I assume was from too much compression. Using the "full disc" tab in DVD Shrink you basically get what XCopy does but with better results. Using the "re-author" tab in DVD Shrink you can remove all the extra crap they put on a typical disc, less files = less or even zero compression required. :) If you "re-author then the menus and FBI warnings etc that you can't fast fwd thru go away. Just insert finished disc and the movie plays right away!! You can also include some extras from the disc if you like, eg Mission Impossible 2 has a cool Metallica video that I included after the movie. Be sure to check "Perform deep analysis to improve quality", it's in Backup Options after you click Backup.

Not that I'm aware of, but DVD Shrink does. The few times I used Decrypter is when Shrink failed. I transfer the files to my drive with it, then use Shrink on those files to edit and compress them. So far it seems that the discs Shrink had trouble with had scratches, every time Shrink has failed, another disc solved the problem. Decryptor tries over and over to get the data, if still unsuccessful you can opt to skip that bit it can't read.

Thanks toddfilo. I should have mentioned that I do use DVDShrink, and it does a fantastic job on almost everything that I have encoded. However, on some DVD concerts, it shows quite a bit of red, and you are not able to compress it. It will encode it, and you can use other programs to compress it, but if you do it with DVDShrink, then go to your folder and try to compress it again, there is noticeable degradation in the video quality.

I guess that in those instances, it is better to burn it to 2 disks instead of 1.
