Sony DRU530 Wrong Region

Purchased a DRU-530A from my local Staples. It would not play my DVD's. I discovered that it was set for Region 2. I reset it to Region 1, but now only have three changes left. Is this a bit odd?

Also, it would not burn DVD's with Nero 6 until I did the firmware upgrade to 2.0A. Is this unusual?
