I have new pc, Pioneer dvd+-RW. I downloades shrink and decryptor and have nero. From reading if disc is over 4.3 I use shrink, if under then decryptor to create image on HDD, from there nero to write to DVD. Am I on right track? Anyother tips? Is TDK a good media brand?
Cheers

Welcome ,
I suggest the following formula !

Use shrink to decode and "shrink", if that doesn't work then use decoder ( only happened a handfull of times ) Burn with Nero ( use the wizard to gothrough the DVD burning options.) I have heard some members recomending TDK disks but much prefer the Ritek G04 disks as I have never had a coaster using this method.
Also find out what format your stand alone player plays. ( I believe there is a list somewhere on this site ) DVD-R seems to be more compatable with standalone players.

Thanks ash010673. My dvd standalones play both - and +, but one of them freezes regularly with + media, so I will probably use -. Am I correct in saying shrink software will enable me to cut out unwanted sections of the dvd or will it as the name suggests shrink it down below 4.3 automatically?
Sorry but this is very new to me!

DVD shrink will shrink the Files down to fit onto a DVD 5 disk keeping everything intact but with lesser quality (normally ) I normally just copy the movie ( cut and paste within reauthor ) then if compression is still below 90% I use the start/stop facility to remove credits , ideally you want to get your compression as close to 100%.Obviously this removes menu's special fetures etc. but thats the price you pay for halving your capacity.
I haven't tried the latest version of shrink as i'm happy with the one I have , but it may offer improvements.
Are you based in the U.K. if so try www.ukdvdr.co.uk for your Ritek G04 disks .

You should consider buying a few rewritable discs. Check whether your standalone player supports -RW or +RW. The backup procedure is exactly the same, except you don't get a coaster if you do something wrong.
