I was thinking of upgrading my Pioneer 106 to a 107 8x model, but I couldn't seem to find if you can burn 4x Ritek G04 discs at 8x with the DVR107. Does anyone know if this can be done? I won't buy anything but Riteks after having burned over 1000 of them with only a few defectives. I apologize if this has been asked before but I couldn't seem to find it.
Yes you can , via firmware* revision. The burn will start off at X6 going onto X8 , the f/w can be found at my good friend (Oriphus) Chris's site here: http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/
But if you add .zip to the end of this URL that is the f/w itself !:-)
Thanks very much.. I got my new drive yesterday, flashed it and updated Nero and it works great! I do see what you mean by starting at 6x, for about the first 1/8th of the disc it burns at 6x then goes to 8x afterwards, total time for a full disc is about 8 minutes. I can visibly see the difference on the disc surface, the 6x writing is slightly more visible for some reason.
Its a very sensitive issue at the minute. The likely hood is, that with a firmware up date, it should be able to. Phillips have stated that their writers will be able to burn dual layer with a firmware up date or slight modification, however, not all of them.
The problem will ly with the spead of the burners burning dual. At the minute it is only feasible at 2x, that means an hour a DVD. Ouch...
