Digital still pics from dvd recorder to pc?

I have a panasonic mini-dv camcorder that requires a Ilink connection. The Phillips DVDR77 dvd recorder says it will record still picture cds from the camcorder. My question is, could I then take the picture cd made from the dvd recorder and load it into my pc and be able to edit and print the photos. My computer is a dinosaur and I'd have to buy a new one to be able to record my videos onto a dvd. And I don't see sticking a firewire card into the dinosaur just for the still pics and still have no way of getting my video onto a dvd. Please help! thanks
